Today's game I ran very ad-hoc. After a mixup reading I realized my plan was a bit off so I just ran the secret lab section of this Gamma World module (GW5 Rapture of the Deep, a fairly well done fan-produced effort) with the included monsters rather than the Black Hats of The Boise Horror adventure.
I started out with the idea that the cult was kidnapping Morlorcks and that's it.
The first encounter with mutant Badgers turned out different. Eric turned himself in and was taken to the Giant Squid cult leader. Then he rolled high on a "how famous is he?" roll and I decided that they know about Doc Brown and that's because he's their Creator.
But Eric is not really into taking lead so at first opportunity he turned it back to a standard dungeon crawl. The PCs did go back to the Giant Squid and convince him to change the cult's ways (which went from just kidnapping for slaves to converting air breathers to the joy of water breathing life).
It turned out totally different than anything I imagined at the start.
