At this time, I'm three journal entries behind so I better start writing something. Otherwise I'll get too far behind and this idea will be finished. I'll guess I'll write about what I did today (this being Monday the 23rd).

First off, I didn't get much sleep. About six hours. Friday and Saturday nights I stayed up until 4 or 5 and then went to sleep until 11 or so. So on Sunday I was really tired. My mistake was giving in and going to sleep at 17:00 for a couple of hours, so that when it got to be 02:00 I couldn't go to sleep.

It was kind of hot too and I was using a fan to try to cool myself off. Eventually I gave up at about 03:30 and moved my matress next to the air conditioner. But I still didn't get to sleep until about 06:00.

In general I try not to use the air conditioner in my car or my apartment. I never use the heater, but that's easy enough as I can just put on more clothes if I'm cold. When I'm hot though I try to ignore it and be uncomfortable. Part of me doesn't want to waste the electricity, but of late I've been giving in more and more to the protestations of my body.

Anyway, so Dave comes over at 12:30 and wants to know if I'd like to commute to work with him so that I can see his new place of work. He works as a Tech Support specialist for Sun Microsystems and his department was moved to the East Bay in Newark. So I said sure and got dressed and more or less ready to go.

Now, I always drive if I can, so we usually take my car. My commute is an hour and to Dave's new place should be about 45 minutes. But Dave needed to get some stuff from his old building so we drove there first. Then to Newark, arriving there a bit after 14:30.

The Sun facilities there are quite nice. A half dozen buildings clustered together, three stories tall. Not as nice as where I work, of course. But still quite nice. We went to his cubicle, which is a bit bigger than the most.

I'll say that I don't particularly like the cubicles there. Small, barely enough room to sleep under the desk. Low walls that don't block people from looking in simply by standing up. No back wall, so your back is to the walkway area. I don't know who designed the work area, but it wasn't someone who actually works in this kind of environment.

After that we went out to eat lunch, since the Sun cafeteria was closed. Surprisingly, quite a few places are closed on Monday or only open for dinner. But we eventually found a hotpot place. You have to cook your own food, all you can eat. Not something I'm used to but it was ok.

I dropped off Dave back at Sun, it being 16:15 then. Then I drove to my work and got here a little after 16:30. I checked my messages and found out that I was missing a 16:00 meeting so I hurried off to attend that. Afterwards I came back and now I'm catching up on my news and e-mail.

Maybe I'll actually get some work done. I do have a few hours and I'll be leaving at 22:00 or so. Some days it goes like this, where I do some stuff and don't get to work until really late. Some days I get to work early and stay 10-12 hours.
