Today I finally caught a fish. The day started out fine,
as I got
plenty of sleep. I took a shower and felt much better than after
yesterday. Dave, Julie, and Fred came by and once again we left
for Julie's Spot.
Once there I fished in the Spot while Dave immediately
crossed
the river and headed downstream. Julie and Fred stayed nearby and
fished also. Dave and Julie had already fished some in the
morning, they had each caught two fish already, the daily limit
being five trout.
After a few minutes I got my first bite. Somehow I
slowly reeled
it in and Fred got it out of the water. A ten-inch trout. That
was quite easy, so I continued fishing. The light was a not great
yet so I had a hard time seeing underneath the water, nor the
line above the water. I did get another bite though, but the
trout escaped before just before we got it out of the water.
After that we ate lunch. Julie's mom made some
sandwiches, which
were quite good. The we went back to fish, although Dave hadn't
returned yet. After another half hour I started getting bored.
This time I had brought my camera so I decided to take some
pictures.
I have a digital camera and one of the advantages is
that the
memory card I have in it can hold over a hundred pictures. So I
took a lot of pictures of the river, going downstream a bit to
take some more shots. I also took some shots above the river
(40-50 feet up on a cliff edge) and later in the day I took some
pictures of Dave and Fred cleaning the fish, quite a bloody but
simple operation.

For dinner we went to Beckie's Restaurant which is
across the
road from where I was staying. It's a nice restaurant for being
in middle of nowhere pretty much. The pies are supposed to be
quite good, although I couldn't really tell if they were much
better than other pies I've had. Culinary discernment is not one
my strengths.
After dinner Julie wanted to get her last trout; Dave
having
caught his five trout already. We walked to a spot nearby, sort
of out of the way with some climbing over big rocks to get to it.
But it was just after some rapids so it's a good place for trout
to feed.
Julie fished while Dave and I watched. She did catch two
or three
small fish quickly, which had to be thrown back since the minimum
size that you can catch is eight inches. Julie then caught a
nine-incher. But since she was having a good time of it she
decided to throw it back and try to catch a bigger one. By now
the sun had set and we had a half hour of light left before it
got dark.
Unfortunately, Julie didn't catch any more fish. So we
headed
back to Dave and Julie's camp (Julie's parents being in the next
camp) after a long day of fishing. Final score: Dave - 5, Julie -
4, Fred - 1, Kevin - 1. Once again, it was fun but tiring. If
only I didn't have to stand up all the time, but I did so I
didn't fish anywhere as much as yesterday. Still, I did catch a
trout.
