Today we played AD&D, which has been moved to Sundays for the time being. Our party was travelling through the desert, and I had a couple of Create Water spells memorized to provide our water needs. After a few days I had the desire to dig a big hole at our next camp. Now, occassionally I come up with really random things that my character wants to do, and this was one of those times. I wanted to dig a nice big and deep hole in the desert, for no reason that I could imagine at the time.

We had a magic shovel, so I borrowed that to dig faster, as I did not want to take too long. The shovel requires 18 strength, so I borrowed a pair of Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. By this time two of the players asked me what the heck I was doing. Digging a hole. Why? Err, so I can fill it with water. Oh, you're making a bath. Yeah, that's it. And then we spent ten minutes coming up with a good bath and a schedule for bathing in the desert. Another random thing that takes up valuable party time.

Another random anecdote. Someone posted a message to one of the mailing lists I'm subscribed to. One of the CC'ed addresses is a lesbian Xena list, the unusual thing being that it goes by the name of LesbainXenites. The mispelling caught my eye, and later it hit me that mispelling lesbian is a way to keep out random losers who are searching for lesbian lists. The second part is that once again it's unfortunate that there are such individuals out there. We should respect other people's privacy.

So after the game I decided to go watch The World is Not Enough. I walked over to the movie theatre, thereby getting the most exercise I've had since the last time I walked to that movie theatre. But the movie was sold out. So I watched The Sixth Sense instead. My friends had already talked a bit about it, but they tried not to reveal what the surprise is. Unfortunately, I guessed by what they said. Still, it's a good movie, drama. Knowing what's really going on helps in determining what the purpose of each scene is.

It's not a scary movie. Well, at times. But it's not meant to be a scary horror movie. I've written that I don't like the supernatural. And yet I liked The Sixth Sense. So I should clarify a bit more. I don't like scary supernatural. If the supernatural is used for other purposes then it's ok. Ghost was a great love story. Scary monster movies I don't like. If you can make it bleed, you can kill it. And one of my first reactions to fear is to try to destroy that which I fear, often in an incomprehensible orgy of violence. That's my 27th movie of the year. It'll be a bit tight to get to 30.

Meanwhile, my weekends are a bit messed up now that we're gaming on Sundays instead of Saturdays. I used to use Saturday as a day to relax after Friday's game, a time when I didn't have to think much. Then on Sundays I'd be fresher and could do a bunch of work that needs to be done. This weekend I spent Saturday not getting too much done, certainly not as much as I would on a Sunday. And on Sunday I've gotten a little more done. It's a change I'll have to get used to, although with the end of the BattleTech campaign, I'll have more free time for a couple of months.
