Cynthia Garrett (host of Later) asks this question to her guests: "if you were stuck on a desert, what three people would you like to have with you?" And the guests pick people they'd want there with them. And I'm in a weird mood because I just thought "why would I want to wish someone else to be stuck on a desert island with me?" Sure, you want someone to keep you company or to help you survive. But that means that they're trapped there with you instead of living a normal life...

I was just looking through the Tidbits site, and see that they run their web server on a 6400 like I do. Except they use System 7.5.1 with WebStar whereas I'm using 9.0.1 with NetPresenz. And they have a quick and responsive web site. You hit NetPresenz and it takes it a second or two to start returning a page. It returns the page quickly enough but the latency is pretty bad. Not that I'm complaining, but NetPresenz has a good enough performance for a $10 program, but not at its current price ($75 was it?). The OS has a lot to do with it too, but I do have a policy of using the latest OS...

Rent is going up again, although it's only $50 to $975. Based on two rent increases they seem to do it every 14 months, and it's less than a 5% increase so it's not bad. I should have them fix or replace the fridge and the bathroom light switch. But I'm too lazy to bring it up and it doesn't bother me that much. Gives the apartment character. Oh, the bad insulation, that should be fixed too but it would take a bit more work...

Writing about Napster and music piracy reminds me that I'm going to have to get rid of all the tapes that I've recorded over the years. It's a nice hobby but rather hypocritical of me in a certain sense. I haven't actually made up my mind yet, but at this point they probably won't make the move with me when I move out (which hopefully will be in the next few months)...

AT&T Cable just keeps getting worse and worse. They added a bunch of channels but now my digital converter box doesn't show the little program info or the menu. Makes it very hard to scan for programs, I have to do it the old fashion way by actually changing the channel. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take the converter box 3-5 seconds to start showing the channel after you turn to it. Cable has such a lackluster service record, why would I want to get my Internet access through the same company that can't keep the signal clear and running 7x24?...

I've seen two episodes of "The Opposite Sex" and I'm quite impressed with the show. It's a new show on Fox, dealing with beginning high schoolers. It's the sort of stuff that (like the high school movies of the 80's) I missed out on when I was younger so I can appreciate it now. A bit too adult at times, maybe realistic but vaguely disturbing. Still, a nice show and since there's nothing else to watch on tv I'm looking forward to the next episode...

There are times that I think I might be gay. But the fact that I don't see other guys in that light and I like girls shoots that right down. But when I look at all the little stuffed animals I have and the penguin or dolphin calendars and... a few other similar things, I start to doubt myself just a little bit. Not something you needed to know, right?...

Last thought before I go to sleep. I just watched Behind the Music: The Bangles on VH1. I thought they were British and I thought they started closer to when I started college (they're from LA and they started in 1981, broke up in 1989). Then they had BTM: The Go Gos and I thought they were more popular in their time than The Bangles. Apparently not, and they were more messed up than The Bangles. And it's nice to see that The Bangles are putting together another album, now that they're older and don't hate each other as much.
