Today was another full day, this time with the after-wedding picnic and the events thereafter. First off, Dave and I got home at 03:00 where Dave went promptly to sleep on my futon while I stayed up doing a few things. But I got to sleep by 04:00 and we woke up around 10:30. Dave had to finish making his ceviche while I watched some tapes and caught up on miscellaneous stuff.

It took Dave a bit of time to finish his bucket of ceviche. While Dave drove home to change, I drove to the picnic. It was being held at the Corodonices Park in North Berkeley. Little winding streets. I found the park, turned around to look for parking, decided to circle the block opposite the park. A few minutes later after twisting and turning, always going right whenever I could, I finally got around the block and found a good parking place.

Walk up the path just like the little map says. Seems to dead end, a smaller path leading away to the side. Walk down a bit and see lots of unfamiliar peoplel. Oh wait, there's Kimberly so this must be it. I'm already two hours late and it seems like everyone but Dave, Woo and Fulton have arrived. Everyone has eaten, so I grab some chips and join the other gamers.

There's a group (that grows to encompass most of the people there) of people trying to split open a Magic 8-Ball to see how it's built. Dave has arrived by now and we break out the ceviche. I eat quite a bit since I'm hungry, as does Dave. Pick eats a bit and a couple of other people try it out, but it looks like everyone else is done eating. Woo and Fulton arrive.

We congratulate Shannon, talk a while, Pick leaves. We decide to go to Pick's to play some board games. Dave, Chris, and I go to Games of Berkeley to look for a train game. Nothing except 1870, which doesn't look all that interesting. We try Art of War on Alcatraz and Telegraph but they have an anemic selection. We then drive to Piedmont in the middle of Oakland to Dr Comix and Mr Games, but they're closed. Dejected we drive to Pick's to regroup.

Woo, Fulton, Chris and I decide to try again at Games of Berkeley. We go there and I tell them to each pick a game. Woo picks some Movie Trivia game, Chris picks Britannia, Fulton declines. We also pick up some African exploration game, Pictionary, Taboo, Deadwood (a Cheapass game), and Lunch Money. Head back to Pick's.

First game is the Movie game. Three teams of three. The quotes are hard and of varying quality. We struggle through it. After a bad start, the team of Chris, Fulton, and I catch up to the other two teams, although the three Dave's win in the end.

After that we play Taboo. In this game you try to get the rest of your team to guess the word (or rarely words) on the card. You can say almost anything but the taboo words on the card. In general the Dave's do well and we do the worst. But after a couple of rounds we stop with the Dave's having 9 points to the other two groups' 6 points each.

We try Chris' variant. One player gives clues while everyone else guesses. First correct guesser and the clue giver get a point. When time runs out the next player becomes the clue giver. It's a bit hectic with this many people, but it's quite fun. Good clue givers can get 5-6 points on their turn. It ends up with Sweet, Pick and Matt tied for 1st with 16 each. Two people have 15. I have 12 and the lowest is 9.

After a fun night we retire. I have a bunch of boardgames to break in. We all had a great time. It was nice to see Matt again and to meet Zorya. Billy we'd see again Tuesday. A busy weekend, I was not looking forward to work on Monday.
