Now that Decipher Games has the Star Trek RPG license, what does that mean for my campaign? Well, to begin with, LUG may print a couple more supplements before their license expires in Jan 1, 2001. The Klingon supplement is done, I'm not too sure what else is close to done. This is if Wizards of the Coast decides to have LUG publish the books, or they may cut their losses and not publish anything else.

In any case, that pretty much ends support for my campaign. Anything Decipher puts out will probably not be until at least mid-2001 and the system will most likely be different. The universe will definitely be different since Paramount doesn't allow the RPG licensees from using previous materials. So Decipher can't use what LUG did, even if they worked something out with WotC.

Taking stock of the remaining adventures, I have some 15 LUG episodes left, scattered over various products. There are another 11 episodes on the TrekRPG.net site, most of which are well done. I have 26 episodes left to go, so I'm seemingly covered. But not all the episodes are suitable for my campaign, although I can probably adapt and change a few of the fringe episodes. Let's say 20 episodes covered by Icon system adventures.

That leaves me with 6 episodes to fill in. Two sources for Star Trek episodes are the adventures I have for FASA's Star Trek RPG and Task Force Games' Prime Directive RPG. Prime Directive focuses on Prime Teams, which are sort of like trouble-shooters; SEAL teams but able to handle diplomatic and investigative adventures. There are few adventures for the system, but one of them is a full module which I might be able to adapt. The system is totally different than Icon which will make the conversion a bit harder.

I have a lot of FASA Star Trek modules. Lots of full 32-page adventures, not the 10-15 page adventures common to LUGTrek. The system is percentile based and based on the television show, so it will be easier to convert. Big problem is that most of the adventures -- check that, all of the adventures -- are set before The Next Generation. Lots of adventures against Klingons, which are less appropriate to this timeline. More action oriented than LUGTrek adventures. But it is another source for hopefully five episodes.

Then there are episodes that I could create myself. Not something that I wanted to do when I started this campaign, but possible. The LUG supplements tend to have several adventure hooks, events that are happening but haven't been resolved, as well as explicit episode ideas. Without the rest of the big Romulan conspiracy modules, there isn't much of a direction for my campaign. So I could do a few episodes that ties things in.

One of the problems that I have when choosing episodes to run is that I want to use an episode that is tailored to the characters. Take this week's episode. We have two characters who will be there, Krystal and Beltana, and two characters who may be there, Venor and Jon. If I only have the first two, then there will be no combat. Krystal is too friendly and Beltana has a code against most violence. With Venor and Jon, the episodes open up. Krystal and Beltana don't have any engineering and few scientific or combat skills. Venor and Jon could also help there.

But, assuming Krystal and Beltana only, I have the perfect episode for them. Lots of talking, no combat, investigative work that requires medical skill. Now to add a bit of action in case the other two show up. I think it's time to introduce another NPC, Captain Eliot Fanon of the USS Himori. He's one of the NPCs in A Fragile Peace and, along with Starfleet Intelligence operatives Commander Doleo and Lieutenant Rhiems, is an optional recurring NPC that can be added to the campaign. Nothing planned for him yet, but I need to set the stage.
