With my work hours going up I haven't had time to write
journals or experience
stuff to write about (I haven't seen a movie in a couple of weeks).
Eventually
I'll get used to the workload and be able to get back to a sort of
normal life.
But admittedly I was goofing off way too much the last few months so I
won't
have as much time as I once did.
Let's see what's new. I got a raise of about 9% of my total salary. Not
bad
because we get pay raises twice a year and each pay raise is supposed
to be
based on the last six-month salary. So my effective raise is 18% which
is quite
a bit. That only comes out to an extra $200 a month after taxes and all
my other
payroll deductions, which is not that much but may be enough to
stabilize my
finances. I continue to buy too many things on eBay, as well as eating
out a
lot and in general spending a lot of money rather freely.
Speaking of which, I finally placed my PowerBook order. I got my new
credit
card two days ago. $5000 with six months of 0% interest. So the next
day I
charge $4900+ on it for my PowerBook G3/500 plus RAM, a hard drive,
mice and
keyboards, serial port and, as long as I had a bit of extra money, an
Airport
card and Base Station. I should be getting all the stuff within the
next week,
then I have to put it together. I wanted to get the new Apple keyboards
but
they're only sold from the Apple Store and there's a 45 day delay --
way too
long for me. I did get the new Apple Pro Mouse, which is optical. Sure
it's only
one button, but it will work on Apple computers without 3rd party
extensions
and it looks nice and has better optical characteristics than other
mice.
I started taping Remington Steele. I had forgotten that it had lasted a
little
over four seasons so it'll take me 4-1/2 months to tape it all if I
don't miss
any episodes. Pax is showing it mostly in order, although occassionally
they
show an episode out of sequence, contrary to what they say on their web
site
and to what it says on ClickTV. That's annoying. I guess I saw most of
these
episodes because I haven't seen one I don't remember, although I've
only taped
a dozen episodes.

Mile High Comics was having one of their 30% back issue
sales, so I decided to
buy something from my childhood and got all the Booster Gold comics
that they
had, which is about 22 of the 25 issues. Booster Gold was one of the
first
comics that I bought for myself and it had a hero who was in it for the
fame
and fortune rather than for some overgrown sense of truth and justice.
Booster
still was a good guy, but he tended to look at the PR side of things
too.
I also bought most of the old Marvel version of Battlestar Galactica,
which only
ran 23 issues. A week later I bought most of the Maximum Press version
of
Battlestar Galactica comics. Maximum Press was a Rob Liefield company
and most
of these issues seem to be his stories and art. I'm not a fan of
Liefield, who
is not a good writer and draws his heroes with these huge biceps. The
BG comics
are no exception as he decided to change all the vehicle designs and
the looks
of the cylons (he couldn't use the likeness of the actors, so I can
forgive
that).
Actually, I was surprised when I read the latest Wolverine and saw that
Liefield
is doing the stories now. Who knows how long that's been going on. At
least the
story is not half bad, so maybe he's finally improving. I suppose I
shouldn't
be so hard on someone, since I'm usually rather non-commital. But I saw
Liefield
interviewed once and he came off as an egotistical young adult who
thought he
was the greatest thing since Chris Claremont. Claremont by the way is
back on'
the X-Men doing stories. Just goes to show you that I don't pay that
much
attention because I didn't notice any change in the comics.
