Looking through the pictures that I took at the Convention, I can see that I still suck with a camera. Without flash it's really hard to take good pictures (not that flash would have helped much in most of the shots as I was pretty far away). Some of the better shots are ones where someone else had flashed the subject as I was taking the picture. I also used movie mode a lot more. A 40 second movie (15 fps, no sound, 640x480) only takes 11.3 MB of space (about a dozen pictures worth) and at least they're less likely to be blurry, although they are still dark. I need to get a x3 telephoto lens. In the second day I started using high-speed mode which takes 3-6 shots in rapid succession (into on-board RAM), then it takes a few seconds to save the shots into the CF Card. I think it's better than using Best Shot Selector as BSS makes bad choices some times and is not much faster than just storing all the pictures...

My fantasy football team is up to a 7-4 record (third place) which is not bad considering the low expectations I had at the start of the season. I did pick up Terrel Davis a few weeks back when he was still injured and some other team dropped him. Now it's paying dividends since he's healthy and a great runner. My whole offense revolves around Elvis Grbac at QB and Eddie Jorge/Terrel Davis as RBs and then having a great day from one of the WRs (Tim Brown, Albert Connell, Oronde Gadsden). The other positions are stable which is about all you can hope from those positions. The team is pretty much set and I don't expect any significant changes in the starting lineup until the end of the season, barring injuries. Let's see if I can finish with 11 wins like last season...

So I've seen 49 theatre movies this year, and even with all the television watching I'm now doing I've still averaged about one movie a week in the last couple of months. I'm hoping to watch at least four movies during this coming Thanksgiving weekend. What four movies would I want to watch? Men of Honor certainly as I like military movies, Bounce because I like romantic movies. After that I'm not too sure. The Legend of Bagger Vance looks interesting even though it's not doing well in the box office. I was looking forward to Red Planet but the previews now make it look too scary for my tastes. The 6th Day will probably be a standard Schwarzenegger action film. And that's it as far as I'm concerned...

I finally got to see the first Remington Steele episode, so now my life is complete. Most of the first season I haven't seen so the episodes are at least new to me. Wow, the accents used in the first few episodes are quite heavy. Remington is *very* British in speech and accent, Laura is husky and has more of an upper-class air than later in the series. We can already see the romance and sexual tension starting from the very first episode. It's too bad they replaced Bernice and Murphy with Mildred later on. I think it would have been more interesting if the main romance had some challenges from Bernice and Murphy...

So I'm trying to buy a cheap copy of Windows NT 4 Workstation that I can install on Virtual PC. Last copy I tried to buy on eBay turned out to be some sort of weird educational license, which I of course can't use at work. Actually my Windows NT PC at work is so bad I decided to run our product on my Mac and it ran fine. It has acceptable speed although it froze once in a while, in an almost reproducible way. So if I run our server on my Mac that still leaves the configuration software which is a massive Applet that accesses our database. Theoretically I can use IE and MrJ (and we did certify Macs for using our client software), but it's a bit unstable and not in a good way. If our server crashes or freezes I can still force quit it, if the client freezes it freezes the whole computer. Oh well, marketing and hype sometimes takes precedence even in my company. But if I can get it working then I don't need my NT workstation once again.
