I had this weird error in Mac OS X. Whenever Mail started it immediately quit. I went so far as to move the preferences and mailbox folders to give it a clean start and it still quit. Then I had to look up an address and the Address Book application also quit immediately. That's when it hit me: Mail and Address Book are closely tied together. Maybe it's a problem with Address Book. Sure enough, when I moved the Address Book file Mail started up. I have no idea what happened. Luckily, I had a month-old backup of the Address Book file so I restored it and updated the couple of entries that I remember changing in the last month.

Another problem is that the Airport Base Station at Shannon's house stopped working. I just haven't been able to connect to it with my PowerBook. So I take it home and reset it and hook it up to the Ethernet network and I can configure it from Mac OS 9. Back at Shannon's I couldn't connect it to it through the Airport card nor through a direct Ethernet cable, which of course doesn't work because you need a cross-over cable. Anyway, the Airport is still configured correctly but I just can't see it over the Airport card. So either the Base Station is dead or my Airport card is dead. Too bad I don't have another Airport device to test with...

So I was watching this lesbian movie -- really it's supposed to be a love story involving two women -- and I'm mostly bored. Sure, it's a little erotic to watch two women kiss, but the whole romance itself is a bit dull. I've seen a few movies about lesbians, most of them independent films (gotta love the Independent Film Channel), and so far they've all been dull. Too broody and realistic -- a problem with most independent films.

And really, I keep saying I like romantic movies. To a certain extent that's true. Very romantic movies are not my favorite. I'm much more into romantic comedies that have been trendy the last few years. I've also watched sort of romantic movies with heterosexuals that weren't all that good. But in general those are better. Lesbian romantic movies are just not there yet for me. In contrast I've watched a couple of gay romantic movies that I enjoyed. I just like the falling in love thing -- it matters less who's falling in love with whom. I like romantic comedies, they mirror life better to me. Well, at least the happier parts of life.

I've stopped watching "Just Shoot Me", bringing me down to 24 hours of television a week. I liked the show in the last few seasons. But I realize that it's not as good now, even with Wendie Malick. Really, it's focusing too much on David Spade's character and I don't really like Finch. So that's why the show is now boring and why I stopped watching.

"ER" just came on. Sherry Stringfield is back on the show and as she came off of the train, mirroring the way she left the show, the first thing that came to mind was "she looks a lot older". It's exactly the same reaction I had when I saw Tracy Needham on "The Division" (on Lifetime). Someone who I had this impression as sort of pretty and now they look worse -- older and a bit bigger. Sheesh, I'm so shallow...

Wonder of wonders, Eric Fulton showed up for gaming today. We didn't really bug him about why he's been gone, just a few jokes that he had shown up. As I look at my records I see that Eric's last Star Trek game was episode 401 back on January 6th. He's missed almost three full seasons. To add to this day of returns, Chris Van Horn also decided to show up today. Somehow I get the feeling he only showed up to invite us to his Halloween party -- he just didn't do anything at all while he was here. At least Fulton tried to play a bit. Not that I really should care one way or the other. And I don't. I'm glad they showed up.
