Dave Pickering married long-time girlfriend Wendy Yu on April 5th of this year. Now, Wendy is one of those people that Donald and Pick knew from college and had kept in touch with more or less and I hadn't really met her until right about when she moved in with Pick like a year ago. Pick does have stories about the "tall asian girl" he knows and that must be Wendy because she is tall, and she'd still be considered tall if she was Caucasian.

Wendy seems like a nice girl. Not knowing much about her other than second hand from Pick, I don't want to make any assumptions. But since she likes Pick enough to marry him she must be ok with the way he is. Julie thinks Pick is a misogynist and although I don't think he is, if you spend some time with him you will definitely get that impression. I think what it is is that Pick treats women like he treats men -- he doesn't pull any punches and that's shocking to some people. Heck, to a lot of people.

But Wendy knows all that. And there have been times when Pick said a crude joke and Wendy followed up and held her own. She's trying but it's clear that it's something that she's picked up from Pick. And somehow I do think it's going to work. Living together for a year or two helps, I think. That should be long enough to tell whether or not you can spend the rest of your life with someone.
The ceremony was held in the Brazil Room on Tilden Park in the Berkeley Hills. It's outdoors with a beautiful view of a field and the hills against the background. Pick was definitely fidgety -- he's not the pomp and circumstance kind of guy and he did give us a couple of impatient looks as the ceremony went on -- and it wasn't a long ceremony either. About 10 minutes I think.

There was a small reception afterwards with a Mariachi Band. I think everyone made it except for Julie. Then there was this three hour break before dinner at Emeryville's East Ocean Restaurant. So we went to Eric and Barb's and played half a game of Formula De.

Dinner was really good. A ten course meal and even without rice I enjoyed it. There was dancing afterwards and a lot of people were coaxed to the dance floor. Luckily Fulton and I escaped. That ran until about midnight and then we left. Most of the guys went to the Albatross to talk since Billy was here and they wanted to make the best use of time. I had to go see my parents so I missed out on that.

It was a good wedding. Much better food than Eric and Barb's but not as picturesque. I hope Wendy and Pick are happy together. That only leaves a quartet of gamers still single (I guess five if you count Van Horn but he doesn't show up enough for me to consider him part of the group anymore).
