California is
going to have its first recall election, at least the first one for
Governor of the State of California. I think the recall movement
wouldn't have gotten enough signatures without Issa's money, but that
does not change the fact that there will be a vote. I also don't blame
Gray Davis for all of our problems -- California is a state where we've
handcuffed ourselves with rules and regulations and how to spend our
budget, a lot of it done via Initiatives, not the state legislature.
But, as I've said before, I can't forgive Davis for what he did to
California schools and colleges. So much potential from a former
Superintendant of Schools. Sigh.
One of the cool things is that almost anybody can register and enter
their name as a replacement candidate. The vote goes, recall yes or no?
If the recall passes, who do you want as governor? You only need less
than a hundred signatures and $3500, or less than 10 000 signatures and
no money, to register as a candidate. It's like a regular election but
anybody can join. Well, almost anybody.

I was enamored
with Georgy Russell for a couple of weeks. Young, good looking girl
wanting to be governor, and a graduate of UC Berkeley. But I just too
the time to read through her issues page and I don't agree with half of
them and sometimes violently disagree. Oh well, for some reason I had
assumed she was Republican but from her stances it doesn't look that
way. Not exactly a Democrat either. She has to run as a Democrat since
that's how she's registered, but she wanted to run as an Independent.
The other interesting candidate is Arnold Schwarzenegger as a
Republican. Yeah, he's only an actor but so was Ronald Reagan, who made
a great President (Arnold can't climb that high since I think he is a
naturalized US citizen). Political acumen is nice, but being well known
and popular and having good advisors can fill in nicely. Still, I'll
have to read his platform before I decide who to vote for.
