For some
reason, my PowerBook G3 has become quite unstable. Playing iTunes and
doing things makes it crash badly enough that you have to do a Disk
Utility repair on the hard drive. Sometimes it's not booting up or
doesn't see the hard drive, though a couple of good whacks helps
(that's a bad sign). Good thing I ordered a new PowerBook G4 because
I'm going to need it quite soon.
It's quite annoying because I'm getting very little done. So much of my
life revolves around my computer that without it I feel a bit lost.
Sure I read a lot and it was less hectic. But that's because I couldn't
do things that I needed to do and now that I have the computer working
again I have to catch up. Not too sure if I'll be ready to run DC
Heroes this weekend.
Simon told me that I got a $4000 bonus coming to me this month. That's
great since I just charged $4300 to one of my credit cards. A $4000
bonus translates to about $1600 after taxes and deductions, if I recall
correctly from the last $4000 I received a couple years ago. Strangely,
I get less money from a bonus paycheck than from my regular paycheck of
$3900, even though things like medical and life insurance are not being
deducted.
Since everything is in a budget, the plan is to pay off the credit card
bill slowly, at about $175 a month. So it'll be two to three years to
pay it off which is probably a bit too long. I also have discretionary
funds to use on any category (from selling stuff) so I could pay it
back faster. Ideally pay it back and save up enough for the next
PowerBook I buy, hopefully in at least three years, far longer than my
usual computer replacement rate.

Finally got my
car windshield replaced. Not that I was planning to do it for a while
yet since the huge crack wasn't getting any bigger. But my sister
insisted. She also wants me to get the car detailed since it's pretty
dirty, what with dogs and gamers using it over the last couple of
years. I keep thinking "a car is a tool, why does it need to be clean?"
But if I keep lugging my brother and sister around I guess I should be
considerate of their opinions.
Television mid-season replacements are coming up and the only show I'm
interested in is "Crossing Jordan" which apparently is being retooled.
Jill Hennessy has a baby to take care of so the show will be less
focused on the title character and more episodic. I thought towards the
end of last season that it was too much Jordan looking for her mother's
killer. I liked it earlier when there were discrete cases she worked
on. Jerry O'Connell will also be back as I guess the spin-off didn't
fly with the network executives.
The only other show that maybe looked interesting is "Century City".
It's a law show set in Los Angeles in the year 2030. Comparable to the
"X-Files" science fiction/horror fusion except this is law instead of
horror. It stars Ioan Gruffudd from the Horatio Hornblower movies and
veteran actor Hector Elizondo along with four other people. I'm not
really into law shows so maybe/maybe not for me.
Gosh, I hate not having music to listen to. The sorrounding office
sounds are just way too annoying. Especially people in offices, who
seem to talk too much and leave their doors open. Cubicle people know
how annoying it is so they tend to be quieter. Sigh, almost two weeks
until I get the new PowerBook...
