The cakeA really nice cake, far better than anything we've had before in any other party. The inscription says "'B' is for Baby who's on the way! Smallish ones are sweetest!" and there is Winnie the Pooh in a rain coat holding his umbrella over three ducklings. Or perhaps Pooh is contemplating making sweet and sour duckling surprise, it's hard to tell. I think the cake was angel food with custard in the middle. I'm not an icing kind of guy but the icing was good. [Full]

The presentsSo we contributed like $150, enough for ten baby presents, but we only bought six and pocketed the rest. :-) Good thing people showed up early because a few still hadn't signed the greeting card. As you can see the blue bag has "BOY" written all over it. Too bad Prasad is having a girl! (Just kidding, it's a boy.) I anticipate that Prasad's son will be hired at Oracle in 2024 and, with my luck, within six months he'll be my manager. [Full]
Setting up video conferenceHere are some members of our group. Aravind Dongara, Jax Law, and Shankar Radhakrishnan watch as Ravi Jayaraman adjusts the video conference machine (and with only one hand too! That's TALENT). Unlike other engineering groups, we don't feel that we all have to try to fix the high-tech machinery we use, hence why Ravi is the only one up there. The video conference controls are insanely complicated if you don't know how to use it. Actually I think Ravi broke into the secret Pacman mode of the video conferencing system... [Full]

Herndon, Virginia video...and here's the Pacman game. Oh wait, that's not it. It's the Herndon, Virginia people participating in the surprise party. Walt Sedlazek, Mike Atkinson, Jewel Vu, and Jacki Tessmer looked in and kept telling us to move the camera so they could see better. Really, there's a way to control the camera (seen here on top of the television) from the other side, but it's *that* complicated to use. Note that we don't use the video conference audio because it sucks (and it's only two way so other people can't listen in). For audio we use the speaker phones and dial into to a separate audio conference system. That's high tech for you. [Full]
