A Better Tomorrow is a Hong Kong action film starring Lung Ti as Ho Tse Sung, a criminal "Big Brother" who is determined to quit the business. There are complications. Ho's brother, Kit (Leslie Cheung), is a police officer tarnished by having an ex-con as a brother. Moreover, Kit still thinks that Ho will revert to form and rejoin the syndicate.

Mark (Chow Yun-Fat) is Ho's former partner, crippled in a gunfight that left him a gimpy shell of his former self. Mark still wants to get back into the syndicate that discarded him and he wants Ho to join him. Finally there is Shing (Waise Lee), the current defacto head of the syndicate, former protegé to Ho, and who secretly betrayed Ho three years ago. Shing is just a spiteful man who wants to destroy Ho's spirit.

There is a lot of what I think of as typical HK gunplay. The whole Ho/Kit relationship is a bit over the top. The subtitles are rather poor which made it hard to understand the plot. Overall it's a merely ok movie.

The DVD has Mandarin and Cantonese audio tracks and several asian subtitle tracks along with an english subtitle track.
