Army of Darkness is the third and so far final movie of the Evil Dead series. Once again we quickly start out by recapping what happened in the first two movies, changing it so that it's only Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his girlfriend. At the end of Evil Dead 2 Ash found himself dropped into the Europ of the 13th Century and this is where this movie picks up.

Ash is mistaken for a rebel and thrown into a pit, where he uses his "magic" chainsaw to make mincemeat of the pit demons. The local wizard convinces people that Ash is the hero foretold. Ash just wants to get home but to do that he has to retrieve the Necronomicon. Of course, Ash doesn't do it right and unleashes the undead hordes.

Still, Ash isn't going to help until the local hottie Sheila (Embeth Davidtz) is taken by the undead. Now it's personal and Ash organizes the defenders to make their final stand against the undead hordes.

This movie is the polished of the three. The humor is amazingly good and the special effects are up to the ok level. Ash is not quite an anti-hero, more of a bumbling anti-hero. Sam Raimi keeps trying to refine his camera techniques. Overall it's a good movie.

The DVD has a commentary track with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.
