Six people are trapped in The Cube, a structure made up of 15'x15'x15'
rooms with doors on all sides. The rooms have different colors and some
have deadly traps. Why are they here? How do they get out? These are
the questions that the group wrestles with while they slowly start to
turn on each other.
"Cube" is a scifi-ish horror/thriller created by Vicenzo Natali (with
some help). It's an independent film with a small cast and even smaller
location. And somehow it works. You have six people, each with a
specific role, and they each change throughout the film. Meanwhile,
there's the mystery of The Cube and how to solve its puzzle in order to
get out.

Actors
Nicole de Boer is the only actor I recognize, and only because she was
in the last season of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine". She's cute although
I like her better with a shorter haircut. Everybody in the cast does a
good job and for an independent film (although maybe it's not
considered an indie film in Canada) the performances are polished.
DVD
The DVD extras were produced after Nicole's DS9 stint, as she is the
only cast member with an interview clip (about 3-1/2 minutes).
Theatrical trailers for "Cube" and "Cube 2" are included. Some
production notes and sketches are there. Vicenzo Natali provides the
audio commentary and it is quite good. He's conversational and goes
into the history of the movie and for the most part he doesn't
reference what's going on in the movie so you could listen to the
commentary without watching the movie.
Recommendations
It's not an exciting movie, but it is a good movie. The DVD has enough
extras to be worth buying. |
