Teaser
Something weird is going on at the local high school. A student
discovers a new species, one of the teachers goes missing, and the rest
of the faculty is drinking a whole lot of water and acting weird. Only
a select group of students realize the real problem -- an alien
invasion, a la Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Their only weapon is
Zeke's "special drug" that happens to also dehydrate the body as a
byproduct. Now the kids have to stop the Queen Alien or they'll soon
have to fight the whole town. But just who is the Queen?
Movie
This is not a great teen horror flick, but it wasn't all that bad. As a
welcome change of pace, the monster is actually not a psychopathic
killer. Really, it just wants to bring peace to these lonely and
confused humans. And what does it get? Dehydrated, that's what! In the
end it is kind of sad, though everybody is much the better from the
experience.

Actors
Jordana Brewster plays Delilah, the head cheerleader and also chief
editor of the school newspaper. Clea DuVall plays Stokely, the sci-fi
nerd that everyone thinks is a lesbian. Laura Harris plays Marybeth,
the new girl. Josh Hartnett plays Zeke, the smart/bad kid who sells
homemade drugs to the students. Shawn Hatosy plays Stan, the football
team quaterback who is quitting the team to concentrate on school work.
(Come to think of it, most of the kids go against type, which is nice.)
Elijah Wood (Frodo!) plays Casey, the picked-on kid.
For the faculty we have Salma Hayek as the nurse, Bebe Neuwirth as the
principal, Robert Patrick as the football coach, Famke Janssen and Jon
Stewart as teachers. All in all lots of people I recognize.
DVD
Not a feature-packed DVD. The movie is in wide-screen and the
theatrical trailer is included. That's it.
Recommendations
Hey, it's a horror movie with a better back story than most. Doesn't
change the fact that it's not that great a movie. Watch it once. |
