Here on Earth is a drama/romance movie from Fox 2000, which is a division of 20th Century Fox making movies aimed at the teen and young adult audience. Chris Klein plays rich kid Kelley Morse. One night he and his friends sneak out from prep school and hang around at the town diner, where they are not wanted. One thing leads to another and the diner burns down.

Kelley is sentenced to spend the summer helping the construction crew rebuild the diner. This is not one of those movies where the rich kid has to live with the commoners and learns to appreciate a "normal" life. Kelley is very much still a rich kid snob and this whole summer is a prison sentence for him.

It would be a total loss if not for one person. Samantha (Leelee Sobieski) is the local hottie and she gravitates towards bad boy Kelley, much to the consternation of her current boyfriend, and quite the heartthrob himself, Jasper (Josh Hartnett). Other than the two young lovers, nobody else thinks this is a good idea on either side of the financial divide.
But before anything deep can really occur, we find out that Sam has liver cancer and she soon dies a bit after the diner is rebuilt. I'm not exactly sure what the point of that was, something about living life to the fullest now.

In any case, it brings the movie to a sad ending, though I'm not too sure you could have avoided it after painting both Kelley and Jasper as nice guys. Still, I don't think that's enough to lower the rating to two stars. Overall it's a nice movie.
