Enigma is a movie based on a novel. It's a story in England during World War II at a semi-secret codebreaking center. Tom Jericho (Dougray Scott) is an American mathematician who has returned to the center after recovering from a nervous breakdown. He wants to find his old love and the reason for the breakdown, Claire Romilly (Saffron Burrows).

Unfortunately, Claire has disappeared. Also there may be a German spy at the center and the spy master thinks it may be Tom. As Tom and Claire's roommate Hester Wallace (Kate Winslet) investigate Claire's disappearance they uncover clues that lead them to think that Claire and the German spy are somehow connected. As Tom closes in on the German spy British agents close in on Tom and it's a race to see who catches whom first.

This is a British film and it's quite subdued. There's a rather sixties or seventies feel to the cinematography. The story is quite slow but it does become interesting. My only real problem with the movie is the ending where Tom and Hester end up together, which to me came out of the blue.
