Movie

Marisa Ventura (Jennifer Lopez) is a hotel maid at a posh hotel. She's a hard worker, has a ten-year old son Ty (Tyler Posey), and is trying to rise up to the ranks of management. Chris Marshall (Ralph Fiennes) is a New York Assemblyman running for the US Senate. Through a series of unlikely in real life but par for a romantic comedy, Chris meets Marisa and mistakes her for an upper-class socialite.

Chris becomes enamored with Marisa and her strangely down to earth plain talking manner. Marisa on the other hand, though attracted to Chris, knows that she's only a lowly maid living a lie. The fantasy must come to an end, and when it does, will Chris risk his political career to chase after a woman who lied to him and played him for a fool?

Actors

"Main in Manhattan" is a romantic comedy with shades of Cinderella thrown in. Lopez and Fiennes have some amount of chemistry, though they weren't totally believable as a couple. Bob Hoskins is very good as the floor butler, Lionel Bloch. Natasha Richardson plays Caroline Lane, the airhead blonde that Marisa initially poses as. Once Caroline latches on to Chris Marshall, she becomes the main antagonist in the movie.

DVD

The movie is in wide screen and television formats. There are some advertisements but no real extras.

Recommendations

A nice story in an unexceptional package. I don't recommend the DVD, but watch the movie on cable or rent it.
