This is just Kevin Smith interviewing Stan Lee and getting the man to
talk about comics books and Marvel Comics and life in general. It's
basically oral history from one of the great ones who was there and is
still around. Broken up into two sections -- "Creating Spider-Man" and
"Here Come the Heroes" -- it is about 1-1/2 hours of talk.
I found it quite interesting. I love hearing people talk about
themselves, especially if they're interesting speakers. Stan Lee talks
about his early works and how the various early heroes came about. He
discusses comics in the fifties and sixties and he's quite gracious
talking about his contemporaries. Kevin Smith keeps the flow going and
makes sure that the interview stays on Stan Lee and not on himself
(apparently Stan Lee loves Kevin Smith's works and keeps wanting to
talk about them).

DVD
There is a short Behind the Scenes featurette, a few minutes talking
with Stan Lee's wife Joan, a short segment where Stan Lee talks about
the never released "Fantastic Four" movie, home movies of Stan and his
family, and Stan reciting a poem he wrote, "God Woke".
Recommendations
Frankly, I think you'd have to be a pretty rabid fanatic to buy this
DVD. But for people interested in Marvel Comics history, this is a
great DVD to give as a gift or just to rent and watch. |
