Looking back at my review of season one through four, I think that
season five of "Sex and the City" is a little worse than the previous
seasons. It still gives me that "Seinfeld" vibe — four people who I
can't really like or even sympathize with who smugly think that they
are so much better and smarter than everyone else around them. At least
in previous seasons I can sort of root for the long term relationships.
The romance of the show. But they pretty much killed all the
relationships by the end of season four so what we end up with in
season five is "the season without men", to paraphrase writer Michael
Patrick King (who provides the commentary in episodes 1, 5, and 8).
Episode 1: Anchors Away. Charlotte (Kristin Davis) says that people
only get two great loves in their life. This causes Carrie (Sarah
Jessica Parker) to wonder if she's hopeless, as she's already had her
two great loves. The girls drown their sorrows by attending the Fleet
Week party and picking up sailors.
I'd do the other episodes but I just don't want to think about them
anymore.

DVD
It's a two DVD set with eight episodes (it was a short season because
both Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon were pregnant). Writer
Michael Patrick King provides good commentary on three of the episodes,
and he tells us the major themes of the episodes and the whole season.
There is a 22-minute featurette with costume designer Patricia Field
and it's quite boring.
Recommendations
Lots of "Sex and the City" fans that I'm sure would love this DVD set.
Of course since it's season five you really need seasons one through
four to make sense of a lot of things. Can't recommend seeing it.
