Katie Holmes plays Samantha Mackenzie, only daughter of President Mackenzie (Michael Keaton) who is running for his second term of office. Meanwhile Sam is starting Freshman year in college at fictional Redmon University in California. At Redmond Sam tries to be a normal student, has fun with her roommate Mia (Amerie Rogers) and falls in love with James (Marc Blucas).

First Daughter is influenced by the Clinton administration when their daughter Chelsea went to Stanford. In fact, Chelsea is mentioned in comparison to Samantha. It's a fictional love story about falling for a guy who turns out to be not what he seems. Naturally the girl starts doubting the romantic interest on his part. But eventually they reach some sort of resolution.

It's an ok romantic comedy.
