Summary
A/1/1:
Vulcan, LC. Selena organizes a short company to go after the downed
pirate dropship. She takes Sir Wrigley, Roy, Clyde, Jinx, and five
other Mechs. The lava fields around Mt Hephaestus sizzle with heat,
and the company makes slow progress to avoid overheating.
Once they reach the pirate dropship, they encounter a company of
pirate Mechs with a lance of hovercraft support. The fight is
vicious, as both sides barely maneuver to avoid overheating. Mechs
heat up quickly, jumping becomes a dangerous adventure.
The pirate left flank is lightly manned and quickly outgunned as
Clyde and Andre destroy a Spider and work on a Whitworth as a pirate
Hunchback reinforces the left. The pirate center is strong, with
an Ostsol, Archer, Rifleman, Griffin, and Phoenix Hawk holding a
line at a molten lava river. They face Selena, Rufus, Jinx, Blake,
Sir Wrigley, and Drew. The pirate right is anchored at a small
hill manned by an Archer, Shadow Hawk, Hunchback, and Stinger.
Roy and Huy face the four enemy Mechs there.
In the center, Selena and Rufus play with the Rifleman and Archer.
Wrigley and Drew join in, but both enemy Mechs withstand the initial
barrages. Jinx and Blake trade fire with the Ostsol. The pirate
center concentrate on Selena and her Mech shudders at the many
impacts. The pirate hovercraft scream in, raking Selena some more.
On the right, Roy takes fire. The pirate Stinger jumps closer and
Roy blows him out of the sky. The pirate Hunchback charges, trying
to get in closer and bring his AC/20 into play. The right flank
Archer and Shadow Hawk pelt Roy, though he bravely stands his ground.
Clyde and Andre take down the Hunchback and Whitworth. They start
on the Ostsol, which is sorrounded. The Blowfish finally take down
the Archer and Rifleman in the center, but Selena takes a Gauss Rifle
hit. The resulting explosion shakes her up badly, and she starts
withdrawing from the line. Rufus moves up to protect Selena, and
starts taking murderous fire from the Griffin, Phoenix Hawk, and
hovercraft. Roy blows up the Hunchback while losing an arm.
As the battle deteriorates, the pirates bravely hold their ground.
The hovercraft are quickly destroyed, Roy's Mech is taken out of
commission. Suddenly, a dozen lavamen appear around the battle.
The lavamen hurl molten rocks at both sides, though mainly at the
more numerous Blowfish. The Blowfish return fire, driving a couple
of lavamen away. The pirates concentrate on Drew, who has strayed
a little too close to the right flank.
Drew retreats before her Mech is blown up. Clyde's Mech develops
a malfunction and he too retreats. Only the pirate Shadow Hawk
and Archer hold the right flank hill, the other Mechs having been
disabled. A handful of lavamen are supporting their allies of
convenience. But it's all to no avail, as the Blowfish inexorably
advance. The Shadow Hawk is finally destroyed. The Archer retreats.
The rest of the lavamen retire the field.
The Blowfish capture a Buccaneer Dropship.
