Scenario


Based on Champions adventure #1: The Island of Dr. Destroyer.

Villains

  • Lord Satanus (DCA Book 3, p. 26) as Dr Destroyer
  • Psycho-Pirate (DCA Book 3, p. 119) as a Marble Pillar
  • Saturn Girl (DCA Book 3, p. 159) as a Mind-Controlled Squad Leader
  • Karate Kid (DCA Book 2, p. 300) as a Mind-Controlled Heavy, appears only if 5+ heroes
  • Warrior Demons (DCA Book 3, p. 285)
  • Brute Demons (DCA Book 3, p. 285)

Plot

Lord Satanus' Goal: Raise an army of mind-controlled heroes to assault Hell and take the throne back from Blaze.

Timeline:

  • Dr Destroyer and minions take over Alcatraz Island
  • Threaten San Francisco with Atomic Missile
  • Heroes arrive to defeat Dr Destroyer
  • Distract heroes with Atomic Missile, use Psycho-Pirate to capture heroes

Subplot for Radson: One of the minion demons is John Gilmore, from the original DC Heroes campaign. He appeals to Radson to get his soul out of Hell.

Subplot for Wildfire: Saturn Girl and Karate Kid are here to brief him on his secret mission. Prevent OMAC from interfering with time travelers in this time period.

If heroes lose: Invasion of Hell.

Encounters

Encounter Rank and Challenge Rank from Building Encounters for M&M 3E.

1. Arriving at Alcatraz. vs Minions (Encounter Rank 2).

  • Minions look like human generic supervillain soldiers.
  • Clue: Minions are demons (large feet).
  • 4 Warrior Demons (PL 6, CR 1) + 2 Brute Demons (PL 8, CR 1) per Hero.

2. Enter main prison building. vs Minions with Mind Controlled heroes (Encounter Rating 3).

  • Clue: There is mind control at work.
  • Saturn Girl (PL 11, CR 6)
  • Karate Kid (PL 12, CR 8). Has an infernal darkness bomb and goggles.
  • If 4 heroes (CR 12): Saturn Girl + Demons
  • If 5+ heroes (CR 15+): Saturn Girl + Karate Kid + Demons
  • Afterwards John Gilmore can show himself, especially if heroes need more clues or an advantage in final battle.

3. Enter central courtyard. vs Dr Destroyer (Encounter Rating 4).

  • One marble pillar (Toughness 10) per hero. Each pillar has golden masks on four sides.
  • Atomic Missile (Toughness 1) ready to launch. Smoke drifting from bottom.
  • Dr Destroyer (Lord Satanus, PL 14, CR 16)
  • Psycho-Pirate transformed into one of the marble pillars (PL 12, CR 8)
  • Tactics: Dr Destroyer uses Seize Initiative + Fascinate (Deception) to mesmerize heroes, buying time so that Psycho-Pirate can covertly mind control heroes. Lord Satanus is revealed if he takes too much damage. If battle goes badly Lord Satanus creates gateway and flees.
  • If 4 heroes (CR 16): Lord Satanus "attacks" and mostly misses, with one real attack every 4th round, content to let Psycho-Pirate try to mind control heroes.
  • If 5 heroes (CR 20): Lord Satanus attacks normally every third round
  • If 6 heroes (CR 24): Lord Satanus attacks normally every other round
  • If 7 heroes (CR 28): Lord Satanus fights as normal
