DC Adventures Campaign - Issue 2
Apr 23 2016 - vs Shark
Characters
- Mystic S (Sophia)
- Radson (Dave W)
- Reda Robotica (Corina)
- Tek Titan (Christopher)
Events
At Pier 39, San Francisco, Future Boy was attending a Power Girl Fan Club meeting at Dreyer's Ice Cream, Mystic S was visiting the Aquarium of the Bay, Radson was having lunch with a friend at the Crab House, and Reda Robotica had just finished shopping at Lefty's San Francisco (The Left Hand Store).
Mystic S was walking through the aquarium tunnel (where you can see fish swimming above and to the sides). She spotted a giant man-like Shark rummaging through a pirate's chest (part of the fish tank diorama). He took out a glowing giant pearl and swam up and out of the tank. Walking up to the second floor she heard shots and shark yells and she came upon the scene of the Shark just finishing off some aquarium security guards.
The other heroes herd the shots and commotion at varying times, donned their costumes and moved in to investigate. But initially it was just Mystic S. Neglecting to change costumes she confronted Shark in her civilian guise and used magic to bind him. Although Shark was slowed for a round he quickly broke out as Radson arrived and tried to protect the civilian.
The other heroes arrived. Future Boy using ray blasts that bounced off of Shark while Reda Robotica had her M2 (Mincer of Men) robots surround Shark. Shark punched Radson out of the building then grabbed Mystic S and prepared to throw her through the hole. Radson flew back in, barely standing, while Mystic S managed (with a roll of 20) to break free of Shark. The M2 robots at first tried to stun Shark but without doing any effect they switch to regular 50-caliber action which started weakening Shark.
Shark destroyed two robots quite easily. With Radson staggering the situation didn't look good. With a few quick words Future Boy, Mystic S and Radson combined their attacks. A lucky crit roll plus a roll of 1 on the Toughness check resulted in Shark being knocked out by the combined attack.
Later the heroes handed Shark to SFPD. Mystic S used her Astral Vision to peer into the giant pearl and see complex circuitry inside. Still, being proper law-abiding heroes they handed the giant pearl as evidence. The four heroes decided that San Francisco needs a super hero team to protect it, though their immediate first problem will be acquiring some sort of base.
Subplots
- Giant Pearl - what is it for?
- Someone took picture of Mystic S in action in her secret identity (rolled 18).
GM Notes
This adventure is loosely inspired by the Champions RPG 3E adventure Attack of the Viper. That is a solo adventure meant to introduce the system and involves a bank robbery and battle against Pulsar. I changed the villain to the Shark (Karshon), a villain from the first campaign and nemesis of Rad: The Radiation Man. I set it in Aquarium of the Bay because I want more authentic locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. Once I had a location I could look it up in Google and asked players why they were in Pier 39.
To keep it simple I kept it to the one villain. I'm not sure about power balancing but I figured one PL12 villain would challenge four PL10 heroes, especially if they were not coordinated. Unusual for me, other than fudging movement (because it's really boring when your hero takes a few rounds to arrive at the combat scene) I kept everything as per rules and didn't fudge any die rolls.
