Jenny's Wedding (2015)
Jenny's Wedding (2015)
An independent drama starring Katherine Heigl as Jenny. She's just attended her sister's wedding, once again single. Mom (Linda Emond), Dad (Tom Wilkinson), and married sister Anne (Grace Gummer) are busy bodies asking her about her love life which Jenny is reticent to reveal.
When Jenny returns home it's revealed that her roommate Kitty (Alexis Bledel) is actually her partner of five years. After all that after-wedding talk Jenny proposes to Kitty and says she will come out to her family.
But when Jenny tells mom she freaks out and asks Jenny to keep it a secret for the time being. This starts a sequence of excuses and lies and other family members finding out at various times leading to hurt feelings.
So the main part of the film is about Jenny slowly coming out to her family and how they deal with it. Mom is embarrassed to confide in her friends. Jenny blows up at mom which causes a rift between Jenny and her dad. Anne thinks this is all some sort of plan to keep the secret from her and this also reflects in Anne's relationship with her husband (Houston Rhines) who's quite the loser.
I really liked this film because it is charming and seems real. Some movies have coming out being a big blow-up drama and others as it being a great thing. This one is more about people being caught by surprise and not knowing what to do. A family hitting a rough patch and eventually mending that patch and coming back together.
The film also has a good musical score and that always helps.
Overall a good, well-acted story.
