Dungeon of the Endless Followup Review
I've reviewed this before [ https://www2.tgd-inc.com/kcw/Reviews/Entries/2016/4/13_iOS_Game_-_Dungeon_of_the_Endless_(2014)_%5B4.5%5D.html ] but recently I played it out and here are additional thoughts.
The little character backstories are amusing and when two characters interact it's interesting. There is a resulting bonus or penalty of a few percent which might help if you're tailoring a party.
On iOS it doesn't save until (1) you go to the next level, (2) you tap confirm after mission failure, or (3) you do a Save and Quit. Which means you can cheat a bit by force quitting the game to restart at last save point. Very useful on harder game modes.
There is only Very Easy and Easy modes, so think of them as Normal and Hard.
Game Modes
Escape Pod - standard mode
Infirmary Pod - no auto-heal at end of turn, which I found didn't really matter much if you have a healer like Deena. I never used the drugs.
Armory Pod - this one was tough since I rely on offensive modules to do most of the killing. With only four "turrets" it was best to clear one wing before moving to another and hoping you can completely light up the wing you finished.
Library Pod - this one was fine since I'm great with offensive modules.
Refreezerator Pod - the one hero leveled up fast to max of level 16. Not hard if you can get enough offensive modules set up.
Drill Pod - played this once. After level 12 every level had lots of anti-minor and -major module monsters so you spend resources like crazy. Only way to continue is to open a door and if monsters show up reset to save point.
Sanitary Pod - this was also crazy hard even at level 1.
I found my best party was
(1) fast person with some intelligence and repair to open doors, retreat quickly and repair stuff so I don't have to move other characters. Sara, Golgy and Lady Joleri are good.
(2 and 3) a couple of smart people who can operate. They don't have to be good fighters and if they have powers that help at a distance it's nice. Professor Josh and Rakya are nice, maybe Opbot.
(4) someone who can operate and fight, doesn't really have to be intelligent. Elise is great.
2 and 3 I'll stash somewhere where monsters can't get them. 4 is on active dungeon wing that 1 is exploring. Concentrate on operating Industry and Science first.
In general I equipped intelligence items and a repair item for character 1.
For research I concentrate on major modules, KIP Cannon (lots of damage if you have lots of stored Science, Tear Gas (decrease monster defense), Neurostun (slow down monsters). Ignored other minor modules, though Prisoner Prod early is nice.
I always forgot to use Emergency Generator. It's quite useful in the last couple of levels if you have Industry stockpiled. But if a generator is destroyed whole sections of a dungeon go dark.
Anyways, going through all the modes gave me another few weeks of fun.
