When writing three journals at once I usually go
backwards.
So I wrote Sunday's first basing it on Sunday, Saturday's
was based on Saturday. But today's is based on Sunday again,
at least for a bit. So forgive me if things get a little
confusing.
Today I did not get Mac OS 9, mostly through bad time manage-
ment on my part. I got up late, and was able to watch the
second half of the Niners-Vikings game. It's been almost 20
years since San Francisco lost 3 games in a row, and today
they achieved that goal. It's rather painful watching this
season, although I still believe that they can win every game
each week.
The Niners lack a lot of things this year, such as a good
secondary and offensive line. It's a good thing Steve Young
is injured, I don't want him playing if he's just going to
get hammered the way Garcia has been hit. Still, they have
a week off so they'll have time to make some changes to fix
some of the faults, such as the sloppy play which leads to
quite a few penalties.
Anyway, after the game I drove to CompUSA to get Mac OS 9.
They had several copies for sale, but then I had second
thoughts. I had gone to ComputerWare on Saturday to see if
they had any copies. I try to give them first shot at software
purchases and some hardware buys, in my effort to support
this fine chain of Mac-only retailers. But they didn't have
it out, I guess it was sold out. But maybe they had it today,
so I left CompUSA and drove to ComputerWare to find out they
still didn't have Mac OS 9.

Now I have a little over an hour before Fight Club
starts.
And I need to get some other things so I drive to Target to
get a few things. Then I go to Barnes and Noble to get couple
of books. I figure I can buy Mac OS 9 after the movie. Then
I go to the movie and afterwards I drive to CompUSA. Alas, it
was closed as it was now after 18:00. So I came home without
Mac OS 9.
Anyway, I ordered it from Outpost.com so I should get it
Monday or Tuesday. Then when I have a few hours I can install
it on Jennifer. You're supposed to boot with the CD to install
on NuBus Power Macs, but Jennifer's CD drive died months back.
So my current plan is to hook up one of Jennifer's hard drives
to my PowerBook and install OS 9 on it. Then I can make a disk
image, boot up Jennifer with OS 9, use the disk image to do a
full install on the other hard drive (internal drive and I
don't have a free case, otherwise I'd just install on that in
the first place, and I don't want to take apart the good HD).
A lot of trouble to install an OS. But it is an old computer.
I have half a mind to get a G3 PowerMac which would have a new
CD drive. But I'll wait until next year. Then I can get my
souped up server with Mac OS X Server. Mu ha ha ha.
