First day of the New Year. New Millenium. Who cares what
literal
minded people think, we can always change the calendar later. But,
on to the point. Last night, or the night before, I came up with
this year's resolutions. Only eight this time; this way maybe I can
get a highter percentage done this year.
The first four are financial and the next four are physical. I'll
deal with the spiritual and relationships next year. Unlike last
year, there are no resolutions with a deadline within the year.
I either do them throughout the year or I achieve the goal and
maintain to the end of the year.
1. Pay off credit card. This one should be easy, but I thought that
last year. This year I have more credit card debt, but I have more
extra money to pay it off. Once again it's a matter of discipline
to not spend money on big-ticket items.
2. Maintain $1000 reserve. This one may be harder since I project
dipping into the reserve to pay off the credit card by April. The
other problem is that if there is an unexpected emergency I'll also
use it up like I did last year.
3. Build up reserve to $2000. This does not depend on (2), although
if I don't break (2) it'll be easier to do this one. Again this one
is possible with hard work, but I don't expect to be able to do
this.

4. Max out paycheck contributions. I want to increase my
ESPP up to
10% which will max out my contributions at 25% of my paycheck. I'll
only have two chances this year to increase the ESPP contribution.
This may break my financial back and prevent me from doing the first
three.
5. Reduce weight to 205 lbs. A modest weight loss of less than 10 lbs.
This will require me to exercise more, eat less and maybe better.
One of the few resolutions that I've tried to do previously, but
never seem to accomplish.
6. Exercuse 20 min 3 times per week. Really, how hard can this be?
Just requires an hour a week of commitment. Can be just walking,
pushups, situps, whatever. Some calisthenics to get the blood moving
and prevent my muscles from atrophying.
7. Get a physical checkup. Same reasons as last year why I won't do
this. But I probably need a professional to tell me that I need to
get in shape and eat better for me to take my health seriously. It's
not as if I'm of the age to really start worrying about the really
bad stuff.
8. Eat lunch, less at dinner. As part of that health thing, I should
start balancing my meals more from no lunch, big dinner to two more
reasonably-sized meals. Just need to eat a sandwhich for lunch and
not cook so much food at dinner time. If I don't do this right I'll
gain a lot of weight.
So, those are my resolutions for this year. If I can do five then
that will be a spectacular success. I should be able to do three
and less than that would be a rather poor year for me.
