San Francisco and Oakland both won today (I'm talking
about the NFL here).
Now they're both 4-1 and though they haven't looked particularly
dominating
that's still a good record. I probably lost another Sandbox football
game,
but it really doesn't matter when the local teams are winning. In
general it
makes the people happier and that's nice. Civic and community pride and
all.
Even if most people don't care, if 10% of the people are happier it
affects
other people and it makes a difference.
On to baseball. After being down two games to nothing, the New York
Yankees
have won two games at Oakland to tie the series. As I said Saturday,
even
down 2-0, the Yankees only need to win three in a row -- not that
unlikely.
Still, there's one game left and maybe can win that one in New York.
Seattle
and Cleveland are also tied 2-2. That one could go either way (for
NY/Oakland
I actually think the Yankees will win, they have the experience).
Atlanta
beat Houston a few days ago so they're resting and will now face
Arizona who
beat St Louis in five games.
Hmm, I haven't gone out to a theatre to watch a movie in over a month.
With
all the television I need to watch I probably won't have the time until
towards the end of the year when the first round of repeats begin. Even
then,
I don't have the budget to watch that many movies. I've already seen 22
movies this year -- not bad considering. Maybe four to six more before
the
end of the year, maybe not.
If I don't watch that many movies, I can most of them on cable next
year.
Today I saw "Meet the Parents" and a couple of other movies which I've
already forgotten. Watching a movie on television at home is a totally
different experience than watching it at a theatre. Theatre is much
better
and I can't imagine a home threatre system equaling the real theatre
experience.

So I'm going to sleep over at work two nights this week.
It's kind of rough
staying at work. My mind sort of goes blank early and I don't get that
much
done, whether it's work or personal. At least Thursday night I have
dinner
with my sister to celebrate her birthday. Not the greatest of
relationships
there but at least we're talking to each other. I'm thinking of taking
her
to Creo La, a pretty good cajun restaurant.
I'm watching "Alias" right now. That show is getting wacko. Our heroine
thought she worked for the CIA but found out she really works for SD-6,
a
rogue intelligence agency. This episode introduces yet another
independent
spy organization. The directorate or K6 or something like that. Gina
Torres
plays Anna, their top agent. Sure, this is one of the three new CIA
shows
this season (the others being "The Agency" and "24" I think). But this
show
is more James Bond fantasy than realistic. Which is ok with me. And
once
again they ended in a cliffhanger. Hmm, I don't like arc shows too
much.
I'm still waiting for the Mac OS X 10.1 Update to arrive. I guess using
the
mail-order form was a bad idea. I hear that you could have ordered it
from
the Apple Store which would have shipped it out the next day. One of
the
things I read in the "Inside Mac OS X: System Overview" is that in
Classic
you can't install a program if it installs on the root folder. Makes
sense
since you have no permissions. Possibly if you were logged in as root.
But
most Mac OS 9 installers allow you to choose the install folder.
So when it arrives I'll install Mac OS 9.2.1 on my spare partition,
then
install Mac OS X 10.1 over that. Actually I'll have to install the base
OS
and then update them. This time I'll use the Classic mode more, if only
for
Microsoft Word since TextEdit doesn't read our RTF files well. I'm also
looking forward to native Airport support for Mac OS X. I still have to
fix
my Airport Base Station which for some reason I can't access even after
a
reset. Sheesh I don't want to buy another base station.
