Stanley is leaving our group to work for Veritas, writing software. We took him out to lunch at Chao Praya. First person who's left in a while -- maybe a couple of years. It's kind of sad when someone you know leaves, it's not like you'll really see him again. You take your coworkers for granted and even though I don't know them that well, they are a constant presence and it'll be strange not having him around. Still, I wish him well and life goes on.

Of course, now I'm amazingly full and sluggish, even four hours after eating. I can pack away a lot of food. I ordered curry fried rice and it was really good, as was the other fried rice dish someone else ordered. Most everything else was ok and people liked it. This is the third time I've been to the restaurant, once with my sister and twice with my coworkers.
We had a fire drill yesterday. It consists of this loud alarm and a voice repeating something about evacuating the building in an orderly fashion. There are also these lights that flash at long intervals. The procedure consists of people milling about wondering if it's a real fire, then we slowly pack up and head downstairs. Of course the main staircase is packed with people but luckily I made my way down one of the side staircases and it was relatively empty. The whole drill took over an hour.

I mailed my absentee ballot today. Voting to recall Governor Davis, mostly because during this test of his administration he's been behaving like a real ass. I don't blame him for what's happened in California, but I do blame him for bleating like a stuck pig when people blamed him. I voted for Schwarzenegger since he did score +8 in my analysis. I also voted no on Prop 53 (I don't like adding more and more restrictions on how the state spends money) and no on Prop 54 (because I don't think it'll help as much as it hurts, people are still as discriminatory as in the past).
