The Diablo
Battlechest arrived yesterday. Diablo II is composed of three CDs and
the expansion Lord of Destruction is another CD. Both the base game and
expansion have CD keys to enter and the game requires the Diablo II
play disk or the Lord of Destruction disk (if LOD is installed) to
play. That last part is problematic with my powerbook since the CD
drive is a bit recalcitrant with some CDs, like the Diablo CDs.
Sometimes it just tries to read it and can't.
I've played it for about an hour. It's much like the original Diablo in
terms of mechanics. Really, all it seems to be is better graphics and
more variety. The engine is probably better but I can't tell yet.
Whatever the improvements are they're pretty subtle. It should be a fun
game, though I'm afraid it's going to take too much of my time.

Man, I'm
really sore from playing basketball today. Don't know why -- I was
taking it fairly easy. Woo was playing on level 1 so I actually won
three games, he won the other three. I can make shots if he's not
defending me, but I guess anybody can. I guess I was running around a
lot chasing down the ball since he wasn't rebounding. Anyway, it's
getting darker and darker so pretty soon we'll have to start using the
lights.
The Major League Baseball playoffs are in full swing and I don't really
care. And it's not that the San Francisco Giants are out of it.
Baseball is just sort of there filling up the time between the NBA and
NFL seasons. I guess after that one strike that cancelled the playoffs
six or so years ago, it's all been downhill. Sure I pay attention to
the Giants but that's it. After that I have no idea how anyone else is
doing. It's sad.
