Got into a
very small accident Tuesday night. I hit the car in front of me,
scratched up their bumper a bit. Probably not a problem if it hadn't
been a brand new car. I felt bad afterwards but I'm over it now.
Considering how many close calls I get into, I'm surprised I haven't
gotten into any major accidents.
Good thing I showed up for the cancelled homeowners meeting. Four
people showed up and we talked a bit. Mostly the concern is about the
recent burglaries and attempted burglaries. We probably need more
lights or we need to hire a security company (but how well does that
help? I'll have to ask Dave) or set up a neighborhood watch.
Working on the Star Trek campaign of the web site and reading my old
after action reports it all comes back just how frustrating that
campaign was for me. There are only a handful of episodes where I felt
"boy, that was a good run". That campaign was mostly "why, why do my
players hurt me so?" I guess it's a subtle reason why I didn't run
season 7.
I think it was mostly a mismatch of what we wanted in the campaign. I
have a very definite opinion of what Star Trek is and it's not shared
by anyone else in the group. True, most of them don't even watch Star
Trek, but even people that do watch it a lot (like Sweet) or only
sometimes (like Rowe and Shannon) focus on quite different things than
I do.
The DC Heroes campaign is sort of like that. I'm butting up against the
same problems as before. The major difference is that I've broken off
Woo, Fulton, and Donald into a subgroup and concentrated on them. Even
if they don't quite get what I'm doing, they're also the easiest to
manipulate and change over to my campaign view.

The current
rumors are that Star Trek: Enterprise
may be cancelled. I tend to have faith that it will run it's full six
or seven seasons, if only because it's UPN's signature show and one of
their highest rated shows. I heard the same rumors about Star Trek: Voyager a few years ago
and it ran to the finish. I do like the show and it will be sad if it
is cancelled.
I didn't realize that Ed is
ending, but I just saw a commercial that said there are only three
episodes left. Fortunately, it looks like the series ends with Ed and
Carol getting married. And really, that's as far as the show should go.
The whole falling in love and the pursuit and dancing around then
realizing you are in love are interesting. Once you get married it's
hard to keep up that part of the formula.
Meanwhile I'm slowly fighting my way through Diablo II LOD's Hell
level. I found a bow that does good damage and gives me +3 to bow
skills, but it requires 187 Dex and I only have like 171 even with
items. So it'll be another four levels before I can use it. I'm trying
not to die as much because you do lose quite a bit of experience in
Hell level when you die. Sometimes though I get in a loop where I keep
dying trying to get past the big monster and to my stuff.
It's surprising how much Shannon's (and Eric's) gaming habits have
changed. I read his review for Empire Builder and he didn't like the
very things we loved about the game five years ago. I'm sure the Euro
games are great for families and such, but I find them too abstract and
flavorless. I like long games with quirks. He also pointed out that
people move slowly in Empire Builder. Well, duh, that's why I was
moving quickly and ending my turn early so I could think when other
people are doing their turns.
