The game started slowly. The Carolina Panthers weren't moving the ball at all but a missed 30-yard field goal and a blocked field goal kept the game scoreless until the final 3 minutes of the half. The New England Patriots scored first with a touchdown. But sudenly Jake Delhomme started hitting his receivers and the Panthers went right down the field to score an answering touchdown. And then the Panther defense failed and New England answered right back with another touchdown. But squib kick and a Stephen Davis 20-yard run let the Panthers score a 50-yard field goal to close the half down 14-10. 24 points in a little over three minutes.

I wasn't paying quite as much attention in the second half because I was playing Diablo. But the scoring continued. New England scored a touchdown. The Panthers scored two touchdowns in reply, missing two 2-point conversions so they only led 22-21 with a few minutes left in the game. New England scored a touchdown and with a two-point conversion went up 29-22. But the Panthers scored again with about a minute left to tie it up at 29. Unfortunately, the Panther defense couldn't stop Tom Brady from leading New England right down the field so they could score the winning field goal.

It was an amazing game. Lots of defense in the first half and lots of scoring afterwards. The Panthers kept pace with the Patriots and showed great poise in the loss. I'm a little sad that the Panthers lost since I was rooting for them, but they played well so there is no shame. Really, I was only rooting for the Panthers because they were the NFC representatives and New England had won the Super Bowl only two years before.
One of the big attractions for the non-football fans are the Super Bowl commercials. I wasn't really paying attention since I was doing housework during the commercials. I did see the Apple/Pepsi iTunes commercial. There are people who say that it is an anti-RIAA commercial but I didn't see that at all. It's more of a "why steal when you can get it legally for free?" And if I bought and drank soda I'd probably drink Pepsi to score some songs. But since I don't drink soda there's no reason to start just to on average pay $3 (or whatever 3 bottles of Pepsi cost) to get a $1 song.

Now that I think about it I don't remember any other really memorable commercials. There were actually a lot of standard commercials that I'd seen before. It's just not as big a deal for advertisers to create cool new commercials to air during the Super Bowl. The best series of commercials from yesteryear were the Bud Bowl I commercials. At the time they were brilliant. Bud Bowl II was less so and Bud Bowl III was kind of boring.

So Barb and Eric had a Super Bowl party which I didn't attend. Really I don't want to be in a room where half the people are rooting for the other team, especially when the other team wins. It's just really annoying and depressing. Some people can take it in stride but I can't. And of course I'm recovering from Saturday gaming so it's not like I was in the mood to waste a few of my precious free hours.

Anyways, it was a great and entertaining game and now it's time to move on and continue with my routines.
