Today I spent most of the day watching my Netflix movies which have been piling up a bit. So when I first started Netflix I figured one movie every three days is fair. Going by that rate I'm at May 15th because I didn't watch any movies for a few months. Now, at a good rate I can watch maybe 4-5 movies a week though the problem is that I don't have as much time during the week as I have in the weekend.

What I do is I copy the DVD to my hard drive during the week and watch them during the weekends, then erase them since I don't need them anymore. This way I can watch 5-6 dvds a week. It may not seem like much of an improvement but it is significant.

I'm probably going to keep renting at as a high a rate as I can even when I catch up. I guess I'm a bit mad at Netflix for continuing to charge me this certain amount when new customers and customers that threatened to leave got a lower rate. And then they raised my rate to whatever they charge customers now.

With both the NFL season and the Fall television season starting I'm going to have less time to watch movies. So it's not like I'm going to be catching up anytime soon to the level that I consider fair.

Movie qualities have been better. A year ago a lot of stuff was scratched and some movies I couldn't get my DVD player to play all the way through (which is amazingly annoying if I've only seen half the movie). Haven't had that problem in the last three months. Turnaround and delivery times are still very good, usually two business days but sometimes three.
I also haven't seen any lost DVDs in along while. There was a period when I lost like three DVDs in the span of a couple of months. I mailed the DVDs but they never reached Netflix, or at least it was never registered as received. Could have been the USPS or it could have been the Netflix warehouse or their tracking software.

I'm pretty much through the 2000 movies. I went to Dark Horizons to get their 2001 movies list but apparently they don't have it anymore. So I went through IMDB's 1200+ entry list to find movies to rent from 2001. Lots of television shows, lots of direct to video movies, lots of foreign movies, a whole lot of pornographic movies. Actually took a long time to just skim through the list. Only found about 50 movies but that's good enough.

2002 will also probably only a few movies. Dark Horizons does have a 2003 movie list but who knows if it will still be there when it's time for me to add those movies. I did a little searching around but didn't find any good movie lists by year. Actually I do have a list of movies for 2003 so it's only a problem for 2002.

So my queue is now almost 150 entries. Much more television than there used to be. It's a good time to collect television shows because so many old and new shows are being released on DVD. Also some amount of anime which tends to be multiple disks.

Netflix is a really cool idea and they have been good implementing the whole things. Hopefully competition will make things better, though I shudder at the thought of Walmart or Blockbuster winning because both of them are known for sanitizing movies and movie selections
