The football season starts on Thursday. This is another year when I'm going to try watching a lot of games. Not necessarily every game, but every game that you can watch on one television (i.e. if there are two games on at the same time I'll obviously only watch one of them). This week we have:

1. Colts at the Patriots. Two very good teams and I'm rooting for the Colts and Peyton Manning. I also want to see the Patriots lose because I don't want them to repeat. Nothing personal, but I more teams to win the Superbowl.

2. Buccaneers at Redskins. I'd rather watch this than the Raiders game. Is Tampa Bay back? We'll see if Coach Gruden is as good as his Superbowl year or as bad as last year. Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs returns from retirement to coach his old Redkins. Sentimentally, I want to see Gibbs win.

3. Falcons at the 49ers. The new era starts this year for the 49ers. It's a very young offensive and a defense anchored by an excellent linebacking core. Of course I'm rooting for the 49ers and this is a game they need to win to start the season right.

4. Chiefs at the Broncos. Two very good offensive teams. I like both teams but I guess I'll give the edge to the Broncos since they're playing at home.

5. Green Bay at Carolina. Lot of tradition with the Packers. Brett Favre is getting old. Carolina surprised lots of people last year when they went to the Superbowl on the strengh of a quarterback who just found a way to win. I like Carolina in this game.
So Kooma left for Toronto Sunday night. Very last minute trip. This morning she said she needed to fly to Toronto. We looked up some tickets at American Airlines, Air Canada, and United Airlines. UA was really expensive, like $1700. Air Canada has some really low fares but mostly sold out and lots of restrictions. AA had a resonable price of $460 with a plane leaving that night.

Strangely, if you wait until morning the price goes up to $730. And of course there are all these options and routes you can take. It's kind of a confusing to find the right combination of price and time. The airlines have always been that way. In some industries it's a way to confuse people to buying more than they need. In other industries it drives people away because it's so intimidating.

She'll be back October 3rd. Then the weekend after is DaveCon, which I guess is still on schedule. Dave is just very bad about organizing things. He assumed that since it's a footnote in my weekly email it means that people all know and have it at the forefront of their thoughts. As if. You have to communicate and remind people and keep doing it, else you end up with the near disaster of GenCon.

Personally, I don't care about DaveCon anymore. The original reason I suggested it was so that we could see Dave once a year after he moved to Los Angeles. Now that he is living in the Bay Area again, there is no real reason for DaveCon, at least for me. Rowe wants to turn DaveCon into a gamer reunion. But other than Billy I neither know nor like any of the other people who've left the group. If a lot of strangers are going to show up I might just skip it.
