Saturday
gaming Rowe said he was going to be late. Ok, that means that I did not
want to get to Donald's on time because that means board games which I
wanted to skip. I tooled around in the morning and then went to
Berkeley and got a haircut at my usual place. Went to Comics and Comix
which was closed down. I think I already knew this and forgot. Thought
about walking to Comic Relief but such is my old age that I didn't want
to. A 20 minute walk that 15 years ahgo was just part of getting around
Berkeley.
Anyway, I arrived at about 13:45 and sure enough, board games. Luckily
Rowe arrived before they finished their current game so I didn't have
to suffer. I still don't have a real character in Erzo because I'm
taking a break so I sort of listened in and made quips. Mostly I read
some books that I brought. I think I was playing Diablo II, once again
trying to crack Kagero's Dungeon. Then I got sorrounded by Duriel
clones and I had to quit.
Shannon asked me to play Memoir '44
some time. He thought I might be interested. It's a light wargame, more
boardgame-y. Nice components, short scenarios covering D-Day to
Ardennes, simple game. Not that I don't want to play, but it's just a
lot of trouble to get to Shannon's place. Maybe some day when Eric is
late again we can play while the others play another game.
Dave called like three times seeing if we had finished the day game so
he could head to my place for BattleTech. I don't put any pressure on
Rowe to finish on time. If people are having fun then they should keep
playing. So if BattleTech gets less time this week, oh well. But we
were able to head out at about 18:40.

Donald got to
my place first even though I left a good three minutes
before him. Woo/Fulton and I both take the Ashby entrance to the 880.
Today it was packed all the way to the toll plaza. Apparently everyone
was going to San Francisco. Donald says we should take MLK to the
freeway. I guess I'll try that next week.
We didn't get to any Mech battles tonight. Eric and Donald negotiated
the first contract. After that they bought supplies for the mission.
That took about two hours. Meanwhile Dave and Woo played backgammon. I
don't think I take that personally anymore. Used to be that I thought I
was doing something wrong as a GM. Now I believe that it's just the way
it is with this group.
After that they filled out their Time Use Sheets. It's a GURPS thing.
When there is a long in-campaign break between sessions players can
fill out these sheets of what their characters were doing to fill the
time. It's a way to work on extra skills, though it's quite slow. But
in BattleTech you spend a couple of months travelling from world to
world so this is a nice way for the characters to progress a bit.
Had about 30 minutes once they were done. I ran the welcoming reception
thrown in honor of the PCs. It was a good opportunity for Woo's
character, Max, to meet his future bride Miria. Just like in Robotech.
Now it may seem like I give Woo a lot of subplots. I was thinking that
I could have done something for Dave but I didn't. That's because given
the same setup Dave would not go for the obvious romantic elements. Woo
will go with the natural flow, therefore Woo gets more subplots and
more screen time.
