Got some work done today. Once again I forgot my PowerBook power supply. But today I had work I could do on the NT since it was actually on the Linux machines which we use via Tarantella, which seems to be a productized version of X-Windows. In any case it's amazing how slow it can be on my NT machine compared to my PowerBook. And it seemed to get slower and slower as time went on. Most annoying.

So Victor, the guy behind me, is leaving Oracle for Marimba. I guess he's been with our group for a year or so. Good guy. I hope I didn't have anything to do with it with all my goofing off. Maybe I'm bad for morale. In any case, that leaves us with 10 people counting Prasad. We'll probably need to hire someone else.

I watched "Veronica Mars", after saying I wouldn't. It's a show about a teenage girl detective who helps her father solve cases while dealing with teenage life as a lower class girl in an upper class high school. Kristen Bell plays the eponymously named character and Enrico Colantoni (from "Just Shoot Me") plays her dad.

It's a fairly interesting show. Veronica is a very serious young girl, who is that way because she's had some rough things happen to her. She narrates throughout the show. Narration can be annoying but this time it works. There is also occasional edgy camera work which I hope will settle down as the show goes on.
Kristen Bell plays the role well. Deadpan and serious, but with a lot going on inside and quite a tough attitude. The character could easily be a guy but it's more interesting with a girl. It's a good show. One potential problem is the ongoing murder mystery which Veronica's missing mom is somehow involved in. You gotta be careful not to make it the central focus of the show because at that point you can't resolve that plot or the show ends.

Jaime Pressly was on the Late Late Show (I guess with a guest host now that Craig Kilborn is quitting the show). She has dark hair now and looks completely different. Apparently she was only there to promote something for Captain Morgan.

And then there's a commercial for Regis Philbin's new CD. I guess I hear it referred to every day on Live, but it still surprises me that Philbin is that popular. I hadn't event heard of the guy until I started watching Live and he doesn't seem to have gotten any more famous.

I received my copy of Airburst Extreme. Played a couple of games. The graphics are not much better than the original Airburst, a testament to how good the first game was. Lots more game types. lots more special power ups. I think lots more music. There's even a story-based game where you travel around gathering clues (really they're just set cut scenes) until you solve the big mystery.

Personally, I don't think the game is worth $30 because arcade games tend to have a short lifespan. It's certainly a well done game and I'll probably enjoy playing it.
