Dave and Julie and RJ stayed at my place today because Dave needed a network connection so he could "work from home". Apparently to him that means he actually works from home. He usually uses his cell phone to dial in, which must be awfully slow. But he forgot the data cable so he worked from my place.

When I came home I set up the VCR so Dave and Julie could watch yesterday's "Gilmore Girls". It was a good episode and well worth seeing again. RJ was fascinated, for a couple of minutes, with my dishwasher's blinking lights and beeps. I also entertained him a bit by playing Airburst Extreme, which is a very colorful and musical game.

I couldn't get my VCR to output to the downstairs television. The television only takes RF input and I should have been able to just set the VCR to channel 3 and watch the tape. But it didn't work. I've been using it forever with the AV outputs and couldn't figure out how to get it to output to the co-axial cable. So I had to bring my bedroom television downstairs.

My place is a mess. I have all the tables scooted together for the continuing BattleTech game. Books and furniture are just scattered about and the carpet is littered with food and dirt. Quite disgusting if I think about it too much. I'll try to clean up a bit, at least on Sunday before I have to pick up Kooma from the airport. It's just a lot of work.

So Dave and Julie are going to have another boy, which they're going to name something that comes out to DJ. Dawson John, apparently named after the creek. Not that they even watch the show, but it's such a strong cultural presence that it gets into your subconscious.
Week 3 was a disastrous one for me, as I went 0-4 bringing my record to 3-10. Apparently I'm not good at picking NFL teams. But there is always the next week, so here are my picks for week 4:

1. Raiders (2-1) at Texans (1-2). Houston is coming off their first win of the season when they beat Kansas City. Although the Raiders have not looked great in their wins and with Gannon out for probably the rest of the season, I think the Raiders will win.

2. Falcons (3-0) at Panthers (1-1). Atlanta is off to a surprising start. The Panthers just had a bye week and are rested. I think a combination of a fresh defense and Jake Delhomme will beat the Falcons.

3. Rams (1-2) at 49ers (0-3). After two close games, the 49ers were thoroughly whipped by the Seahawks, who handed the 49ers their first shutout since 1977. Once again, I still think the 49ers can win their game and I'm rooting for them.

4. Chiefs (0-3) at Ravens (2-1). Kansas City starts out awfully, losing their first three games including a stunner against the Texans. Can the Chiefs go to Baltimore and win against the Ravens? I don't think so. Ravens to send the Chiefs to an 0-4 start.

Meanwhile in Major League Baseball the Giants are fighting for the wild card spot along with Houston, Chicago, and just barely San Diego. Still, if the Giants can stay close to the Dodgers they will have a shot at the divisional title. They might need to sweep the three game series, but they'll have a shot.
