Another week,
another total zero in NFL picks. With another 0-4 week my record is now
3-14. This could be depressing but there is lots of time left to turn
it around. Admittedly it's unlikely. Anyways, for week 5 my picks are:
1. 49ers (0-4) at Jets (3-0): After four weeks of getting pounded, I
really don't think the 49ers can beat the Jets in New Jersey. So it's
with a heavy heart that I pick the Jets to win.
2. Steelers (3-1) at Cowboys (2-1): Cowher vs Parcells. As I've said, I
like Cowher and I like the Steelers. They've been a blue-collar for the
last decade, not always successful. I think they can beat the Cowboys
in Dallas.
3. Vikings (2-1) at Saints (2-2): The Vikings once again are syncing in
offense. On any given day the Saints can score lots of points, on other
days they score nothing. This one is a coin flip and I'll pick the home
team Saints.
4. Buccaneers (0-4) at Rams (2-2): As with the 49ers, I've lost
confidence in the Buccaneers. It's too bad for coach Gruden, once
hailed as an offensive genius but now Tampa Bay is threatening to have
the lowest scoring offense in the NFL. Anyways, Rams to win.

I broke my
iPod. Dropped it onto my garage's concrete floor when I was getting out
of the car. My fault since I loosely hook the iPod in its case to my
pants' front pocket with the iPod inside. When I start the iPod it
comes up with the "folder with exclamation point" icon. It can mean
several things, all having to do with the iPod not finding an operating
system to boot.
I went to Apple's support site. Did a few searches and found nothing.
But luckily the iPod FAQ does have a reference. It recommended I reset
the iPod which I did (Menu + Play for a few seconds) but that didn't
help. Next thing it recommends is to use iPod Setup/Update to
reinitialize the iPod. But my iPod isn't even recognized by my
PowerBook when I hook it up. Sometimes I have to shutdown and restart
my computer but that didn't work.
So, do I buy another iPod or a hard drive. I only got the iPod as an
emergency hard drive and I still have that need so I guess I should buy
an iPod. Look at the Apple site and the 40 GB iPod is $400, $380 via
Oracle, $330 for a refurbished (previous generation). I bought a
previous generation 40 GB iPod (same as my broken one) for $304 with
shipping on eBay. Shipped via UPS to my home (the seller only takes
confirmed PayPal addresses) so we'll see if I receive it.
I looked at the warranty. It's one year but I think that's only for the
battery since some iPods have battery problems. In any case I don't
think I'd be covered since I did drop my iPod. Later my brother said
that I might still be able to get it fixed. I'll let my brother handle
it since he is better with the talking. And if he gets it fixed he has
an upgraded iPod.
