Today as a treat I ate lunch. Went to the 400 Cafe for a hamburger but they had fried chicken and I couldn't resist. Fried chicken, mash potatoes, macaroni and cheese (some kind of white cheese, mozarella?) and also a bowl of corn soup. But when I returned to my desk Simon wanted to talk to me so we had a brainstorming meeting for the next couple of hours. Came back and the food was of course cold but good and filling.

It's generally not a great idea to eat on basketball day because we sometimes eat afterwards and I'm usually still kind of full. After the game we went to the taqueria place that we've never been to, the one in the Togo's/Jack in the Box plaza across from Sun. Nice place. The owner (I assume) was very friendly and talkative. Maria the cook is a fine looking Latina. I had the beef burrito which was fairly good and we watched the Spanish-language version of the vice presidential debate.

So I think I mentioned that I'm carpooling with Fulton to DaveCon. Looking at the map, that decision was probably a mistake. It would be so easy to pick up my brother, drop off Kooma, then take the 99 to Bakersfield. Instead I'm driving to Sacramento then west back to San Jose then we have to go east to get to the 99. And I don't get to do most of the driving in my car, which was the real plus of the whole thing for me. Sometimes it's tough being friends.

I decided I'm not running BattleTech during DaveCon. I'll be spending the whole day Thursday driving. I'll be spending most of the night Sunday driving. Monday I'll be spending with my parents, and I'll probably be tired the whole day. Then Tuesday I get back to work and I bet I'll have many things to catch up on. If I finish the current scenario I don't see how I'm going to be ready for the next game. Even if we don't game on the 16th, it'll be because I'm at my parent's place so I'm not going to have much time to work on an adventure.
Speaking of conventions. Went to reserve a room at Marriots for DunDraCon. Wow, it's $99 a night and Sunday night it goes up to $190. And then you add tax and service charges and so forth. Strangely, the AAA rate is $190 a night all the way through. It's just weird how the so-called "discount" rates cost more than the regular price. Yeah, theoretically they're better rooms but really they're not. Maybe an extra nightstand or something stupid. There is no difference between the lower room classes. Haven't tried the upper room classes so maybe they're differentiated better.

In any case, I'm thinking of not renting a room for DunDraCon 29. It's not like we do anything there anyways. Not really. I have some sessions I like going to Saturday noontime or so. Then there's the drinking which I think will probably be Sunday -- but if Donald is there carpooling home should not be a problem (Woo and Fulton but I don't think Fulton drinks much). I'll have to ask Christopher if it's ok to commute to DunDraCon each day.

Speaking of my brother. Once he moves in with me, I wonder where Karina, his girlfriend, is going to go. Last I heard she is still not really looking for a job, sort of aimlessly living. I have the thought of letting her stay her too in the 3rd bedroom. It could be a good or a very bad thing. I'm assuming they're not having sex, otherwise my brain is going to melt if they're both living here. But I don't know how commited he is to Karina so maybe he doesn't want to do it (though they are living in the same apartment now, with 2 or 3 other people). I'll ask him at DaveCon.

The big thing I want to get done at DaveCon is read the voter information guide I received in the mail. Big thick book since this is a presidential election year. Lots of propositions and other laws I have to read about and decide how I'm going to vote on. The other thing I should try to do is read more. Books are piling up and my reading rate has fallen. Now is the time to somehow buckle down and get back to reading two books a week.
