I didn't get much sleep tonight. It's too warm in the bedroom and I couldn't get the window open. Went to bed at 04:00, tossed and turned, and woke up at 08:00. Walked around taking pictures. Christopher also woke up early. Julie and Riley were also up.

Having nothing better to do we went out with Dave to get more con supplies. Went to Blockbusters and rented eight movies to fill in the gaps for the movie room. Then to Mike (Dave's older half-brother) to get some tools, get some hay for the archery range, and to Staples for convention badges.

Most of this stuff was in Victorville which is next to Apple Valley. Apple Valley doesn't have much even for a town of 50k. I'm not even sure they have a proper downtown. We did pass through Victorville's old town and they have some sort of mall and most of the usual chain stores California urbanites expect.

For lunch we went to a Middle Eastern place. I had a chicken and rice entreé which was good. We got a couple of appetizers, tabula and something else. Not too good -- too sour for my tastes.

Back at Dave's they set up the basketball half-court and the archery range. Rowe arrived about this time. Sweet, Chris and I shot some arrows. Woo, Fulton and Rowe played tip. Chris joined them later and Woo won eventually. The basketball half-court is not good because it slopes left to right. You could easily get hurt playing there.

Fulton started playing Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire on my computer.
Later that night they played Munchkin. Woo cooked a spaghetti dinner which was quite good. We watched Army of Darkness and Star Wars, though really not much of either film. Dave is just running the movies on the television while we do other things.

Donald called at 18:00 after I had just left him a message. We were wondering where he was on the road. Apparently I woke him up and he hadn't even left yet. Eventually he decided to to leave at 01:00 so he can arrive here in the morning.

Right now they're playing Myth Fortune. They had to delay the game a bit while Dave put Riley to sleep. The kid was crying and crying. I remember when Steph and I just left Chris in his room and let him cry himself to sleep while we watched television. You don't want to spoil the kid but you don't want to be too cruel. It's a delicate balancing act.

Anyway, Myth Fortune, the game that never ends. Apparently they're not playing with the football and dragon poker rules, which are mini-games within the game. Rowe said they're pointless and really drag the game. It might stll be a long game.

Meanwhile, I'm starting to crash. Not enough sleep plus a big dinner plus nothing interesting going on means that I'm pretty tired. I'm kind of warm though and I don't like going to sleep all hot and sticky. I'll probaby have to strip to a t-shirt and shorts, whch is generally against my usual dresscode.

And that's the first official day of DaveCon.
