Second week in
a row that I showed up quite late for the first game. I think that's
pretty much how I'm going to do it for the next few weeks at least.
It's nice having a few extra hours to do stuff then I can roll in to
Donald's at 16:00 or so and only be there for two or three hours before
we adjourn for the second game. It's nice to see the guys, but I'm
still not in the mood to play Erzo.
We got to my place and I started making some of the frozen food we had.
At the end of the night we ate the buffalo wings they bought a couple
of weeks ago, two of the Trader Joe's pizzas, and all the leftover
Halloween candy. Next week I'll see if Woo can make spaghetti. I have
to remember to ask him what ingredients I need to buy.
Before the game, while Dave was showering, we watched his DVD of The
Gamers. It's about 45 minutes long and it's quite funny. Basically it's
a D&D run where you see the players playing then switch to the
characters doing stuff. It's very funny because of all the stupid
things that players do when playing a game. There's a lot of bullshit
and rules lawyering and predictable tropes. Basically it's a familiar
tale for people who've played role-playing games for any length of time.

We played
BattleTech for less than two hours. About an hour fixing their Mechs,
getting the rules down so that they know which skills to train and so
that they get the procedure down. Then I ran the first GURPS fight.
Donald had drawn the map and we put the characters down and then the
gunmen came in and shot up Dave and Donald as those two were charging
them. Basically it was just a fight to show that gunfights are
dangerous and to get a bit of a runthrough the combat rules. Next week
on to the real adventure.
Sometimes I worry that I'm giving the PCs too many experience points.
Especially considering we don't get much gaming done each session. But
they are way behind in a lot of skills so for now it's ok. Once they
become somewhat competent I'll dial down the experience. I don't see
any problems as long as they have Edge to spend to make up for any
deficiencies.
After Dave left we watched some television and chatted a bit. Donald
left. Eric was writing down a bunch of stuff for his Middle Earth
campaign. Woo watched television. Eventually I was watching the Alias
DVD I rented. Sometime after 01:00 Woo and Eric finally left. Stayed up
a bit watching more television because I had taken a nap earlier in the
day and I wasn't that tired. Went to sleep at about 03:30 or so.
