Friday I received Star Trek: Elite Force 2. I immediately installed it. Unfortunately it requires a CD to play and I couldn't get a disk image to work. Anyway, it's still much like the first one. Much better graphics, partly due to better hardware. The elements are the same they just look better. There are five different weapons plus the tricorder.

The Tricorder seems to be quite a bit more important now. You can use it to analyze items, there is a structural integrity mode that gives you a special vision where you can see environment objects (like walls) that you can shoot, and it's used to operate controls. You can't use a weapon with the tricorder which is kind of inconvenient. You can't search if you have bad guys shooting at you.

I played for about an hour including the tutorial and unfortunately I still get motion sickness. This has been a relatively recent development, within the last three or four years. It may be because I'm using my PowerBook monitor instead of a good CRT monitor. I think I can play it for about half an hour at a time though even not every day.

Later that day we had dinner the El Torito that is a couple of miles south of Great America. I got there about 45 minutes early because I had to take Simon to pick up his car at about 17:45. Then I drove down El Camino Real for about 45 minutes, making my way slowly to Shoreline Boulevard. Then I cut to the freeway (passing by Tell Me where Sweet and Donald work) and got to El Torito at about 18:45.

So I read some more of Clinton's book, I guess about 30 pages until everyone else arrived. There was Woo and Fulton and Woo's friend (Albert?). Meanwhile before they got there it was quite loud with the mariachi singers entertaining a party.
Since we didn't play basketball on Thursday I had some money saved up so I could splurge on a big meal. Even had flan for dessert. Probably too much food because I paid it for it that night with a bit of heartburn. Anyway, the guys decided to play Never Winter Nights next. There aren't that many choices where I can play with my PowerBook. Really, I think I'd rather sit out a round of games and rest for a couple of months.

So Stephanie gets these Borders coupons in her email, which she then forwards to other people including me. It's kind of strange since the coupn says that the "original coupon must be redeemed at time of purchase" and to "void if copied". But you have to print it out on your personal printer so I guess that doesn't count, though you could print multiple copies. Maybe they yse unique numbers to keep track.

I guess I'll try the coupon Saturday since I want to get some ready-to-bake pizzas from I think it's Papa Murphy's near the Albertsons. That's a weird concept -- a "restaurant" that sells to ready-to-cook food only. It means that they don't have to have ovens or a dining area or charge sales tax since it's food. But there are few foods you can do this with, pizza being one of them. Pretty clever.

I get from dinner about 21:00 or something. Dave calls me later saying that he's a bit late for work and that he'll drop off my tape tomorrow. Now I'm thinking "dude it's not that important". But I think about it more and maybe a few years ago I mentioned something about not getting my tapes back from Julie. So all these years Dave and Julie have been thinking I resent it when people keep my tapes. When I don't because that particular thing is not that important to me. Could be that I'm reading too much into the situation.
