Tip or Trick: fsck

fsck (file system check) is a Unix tool to scan and fix the file system. You can run fsck using Disk Utility (verify or repair, can't run on start up disk). If your system is really messed up, or to run on your start up disk:

1. Restart with command-S to boot into single user mode, which is a command line interface (like DOS).

2. Type: /sbin/fsck -fy

3. Repeat step 2 until no more errors are reported.

4. Type: reboot
