Tuesday I came back to work. We have this week to fix bugs for 11.5.10 Cumulative Update 1. First up is a P1 bug - the softphone buttons are not lighting up. Confirm the bug, look up the recent code changes, track it down to one file. Simon made some changes and checked it in probably just before he left and took for Christmas. He made a slight mistake which wasn't too hard to fix. The hard part was testing it since I'm not familiar with the new environments.

Then I had eight multi-site bugs. After looking at the logs, two were environment issues and the rest I couldn't reproduce. Multi-site is one of those things that requires a lot of configuration and is quite fragile if anything is configured wrong. In this case it was a switch configuration which had somehow had become unset.

Wednesday Simon was back and I worked on a couple of customer TARs. For some reason customers are unwilling to upload log files that are hundreds of megabytes. I have no idea why because it's hard to diagnose a problem when the customer is only uploading what they think is enough to show the problem. My job then becomes a lot of guesswork and we occasionally misdianose or have to ask for more logs.

Today I wasn't really in the mood to work. Simon wants me to fix a subtle bug in my Nortel adapter code. I thought about it for a couple of hours and I believe I have most of the holes plugged. But I'm going to mull it over this weekend. I don't like changing old code at the spur of the moment because I don't remember why I did things the way I did. And sometimes I think of a better solution.
So I came home early to watch the Holiday Bowl. #4 Cal vs #21 Texas Tech. Man, Cal looked awful losing like 44 to 28. There was point there in the first quarter when Cal was controlling the game. They were running the ball offensively and stymieing the Texas Tech offense. But then they stopped moving the ball and Texas Tech started moving the ball in the air and it was more or less downhill from there.

It's been raining fairly hard, stormy even, since about Sunday. The rain is nice though I guess too much rain is bad. And this means more snow for skiers though I'm not one myself. What it does mean is that I haven't had the chance to photograph some items I bought because there is no sunlight in the morning. It has to be just right as it goes through the window and hits the floor of my room then I can put items on the floor and take pictures.

I've been converting some tapes to MPEG using my EyeTV. The current version of the EyeTV software is very good. Some of the tapes are quite bad and you get all this flicker and distortion. EyeTV used to really hate it and would often freeze or stop if the picture was really bad for more than a few seconds. But now although it has trouble recording problem sections at least it's not dying on me.

I just received my car insurance bill. $1276 for next year which is the same as this year. I was expecting it to go up since I did do a slight bit of damage to a car last January. This is a pleasant surprise and here I was all set to start looking for a new car insurance company. I guess I'll stick with Travelers.
