Indiscreet is a classic romantic movie, with a bit of what passed for
comedy back then. It stars Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, both still
quite magnetic at their age (54 and 43, respectively). Bergman plays
Anna Kalman, an accomplished broadway actress in London. She meets
Philip Adams, a successful businessman just appointed to NATO.
They quickly fall in love. A forbidden love as it turns out because
Philip is married, though separated from his wife. But what they have
is enough for Anna. Their quiet and romantic little affair is shattered
when Anna finds out that Philip lied to her and is actually unmarried.
In general I thought plodded along. It's about 110 minutes long and
much of it is the romance part. They quickly bond and then there's the
long part where they do romantic things. The only hint of conflict is
that he's married and what will people think? It's only the last half
our or so when they start fighting a bit because of his lie.
Still, both stars have good chemistry and keep the film watchable. I
thought the resolution was a bit sudden and perhaps if it were shorter
it would have gotten a higher rating from me.
