Teaser

The Russian Mir station is attacked by an unknown entity, which rides the communication beam down and infects a Russian communications ship. Meanwhile, Captain Robert Everton (Donald Sutherland) is trying to get his cargo through a hurricane. He loses the cargo, the ship is badly damaged and they take refuge in the eye of the hurricane. In the eye they meet the Russian ship, seemingly abandoned. With dreams of claiming the salvage rights, Captain Everton and crew board the ship only to find horror and death.

Comments

"Virus" is a so-so techno-horror story. Jamie Lee Curtis plays navigator Kit Foster, William Baldwin plays engineer Steve Baker, and Joanna Pacula plays Russian scientist Nadia Vinogradiya. At least there is a little mystery about what the horror is, though it is revealed early in the movie. If this was supposed to be a thriller, it didn't do a good job of it.

Actors

William Baldwin is my favorite Baldwin brother, but in this movie he's kind of flat, though I guess the genre doesn't leave much room for acting. Donald Sutherland comes off pretty well as the obsessive Captain Everton. I would think that Jamie Lee Curtis is getting tired of all these horror roles. It's not like she brings anything new after doing this for the umpteenth time.

DVD

The basic DVD has no extras, not even the theatrical trailer. There is a choice of DTS or Dolby sound, but I don't consider that an extra.

Recommendations

I can't recommend this movie.
